Finally, it was the after party of the dinner. This time, it was being held in the Martins' Ball Room. It was playing loud music, but not loud enough where you have to yell over the music. This was the first time that Valerie had ever been in the Martins' Ball Room, and was nervous. She was never the type to dance in front of everyone, but she loved dancing.
"Come on Val! Dance!" Mary urged, clinging to her best friend's arm to pull her to the dance floor. "I know you love dancing."
"Mary, you know I don't like dancing in front of people," Valerie complained, holding onto Brycen's bicep, who was flirting with two girls that Valerie recognized as Laney Collins and Wendy Reins. They seemed to be nice girls, so Valerie was happy that she didn't have to go into protective mode. "I don't feel like dancing to a fast song right now."
"But this is your favorite song!" She continued to urge. "You always dance to this song!"
Valerie stayed silent for a minute to try to recognize which of her favorite songs it was. It was "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke, featuring T.I. & Pharrell. Yes, this song was her favorite, but that didn't mean she was going to dance to it in front of a whole room of people! "Yeah, so? You know very well that I get nervous dancing in front of a lot of people. I'll just stay here and watch people dance instead."
Mary rolled her eyes, giving up to go dance with Kirkland. "Fine then! Yell for me when you find the courage to dance!"
This time, Valerie rolled her eyes. Like she would actually do that. "Whatever."
Being the bored and adventurous girl she is, she started walking around to see what others were doing. She passed by the jocks and popular girls, and saw Chance and Baleigh grinding on each other. After she saw that, she wanted to shout "Hey! We're in a ball room, not a night club!" But she didn't say that. She bit down on her tongue, trying to stop her from getting in trouble.
"Hey Valerie!" A male voice greeted from behind her. She quickly turned around, ready to slap whoever it was that decided to scare her. Once she noticed it was Daniel, she smiled.
"Hi, Daniel," She greeted back in a kind, yet nervous, voice.
He chuckled. "Why aren't you dancing? Mary told me this is your favorite song."
Seriously? Valerie thought to herself. That sneaky little bitch. "Well, I don't like dancing in front of people, so I don't. I just never thought I could dance, but I love it."
"You know, my older sister once told something that I will cherish forever," He smiled, remembering what his older sister told him. That was what he was going to live by. "She told me to find a girl who dances like nobody is watching her, loves like there is no limit, and lives as though heaven is on Earth."
"That's wise," Valerie smiled. "Have you found that girl yet?"
"No," His smile faltered when she asked that sudden question. "But I'm going to keep looking. I know there is someone out there just right for me."
Valerie nodded. "I want to find a guy, but like Chance once said to me: Any guy would like to be dead before they even think about dating me."
"Don't listen to him, Val," Daniel urged. "He's dating the sluttiest whore at school, also known as Baleigh Hills. You think he knows what beauty is?"
Valerie didn't reply. How could she reply to that? So instead of being rude, she just shrugged. The fast upbeat music changed, making Valerie cringe at the thought of not having a partner and being forever alone. It changed from "Blurred Lines" to "Play It Again" by Luke Bryan. She looked over to where Mary and Kirkland were, and smiled at the sight. They were slow dancing close together, looking like they would never let go of each other.
