Valerie sighed as she entered her third period, Health and Safety. Usually, the teacher, Mr. Frocken, would teach them about diseases and how to avoid them if possible. But today, she heard from Ashley Jones that they were learning about STDs and how to be safe. Valerie shivered at the topic. It was just perverted and gross!
"Hey Val!" She heard the familiar masculine voice of Chance Martins' voice.
"Hi Chance," She replied with less enthusiasm.
"How's your day been so far?"
Valerie noticed that Chance Brennin Martins was generally trying to be nice. So, she decided to be nice back. "Okay I guess. I can't wait until tonight though!"
Chance's dirty blonde eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. "What's tonight?"
"I'm going on a date tonight with Daniel Vincent," She answered back in a dreamy tone.
Her answer made Chance's eyes turn cold and vicious. Daniel Vincent. He and Chance had a rough history together, and it made his blood boil just hearing his name. "Daniel Vincent?"
"Um, yeah. Do you have a problem with that?"
Chance shook his head hesitantly and slowly. "N-No, not really. Just be careful please? He knows how to break a girl's heart."
This made Valerie confused and slightly angry. "Why should I be careful? Daniel wouldn't break a girl's heart at all! Are you sure you aren't talking about yourself? Cause you sure have broken a lot of girls' hearts."
"Because he's nothing but trouble, Val. I don't even know why you're getting so upset about me saying that."
"Because I really like Daniel," She replied, gritting her teeth together. "He's the one guy that actually makes me feel really special."
"I would rather you date your best friend Brycen than date that prick," Chance hissed under his breath, crossing his arms across his chest with a pout. "Brycen makes you feel special too. Out of all the guys that are in love with you, you choose him?"
"Brycen is only my best friend and always will be. He used to make me feel special until he started flirting with all the other girls in our grade," Valerie frowned, looking down at her desk that had a new note that wasn't there before. "And there aren't any guys in love with me and there never will be."
Valerie opened the note, smiling as she kept reading it over and over again. It read:
To: Valerie
Hey, beautiful! It's Daniel. I can't wait until tonight - our first date if you forgot. I doubt you ever would because you're the one that made the plans. I'll see you after school gorgeous. <3
From: Daniel
Nothing could possibly keep the dreamy, in-love smile that she had on her face. But, she kept thinking to herself, who gave her this note? Daniel wasn't in her class, so who could have possibly given her the note? She looked around the room and spotted only a few of the possible culprits. Ashton Westfield, Troy Curts, or Laney Collins. Laney Collins just happened to be Daniel's cousin, so it could possibly have been her. Ashton and Troy were his best friends, more like his brothers. You almost never saw one without the others.
"Good morning class!" Mr. Frocken greeted in an excited tone, waving at the class.
Great, thanks for messing up my train of thought Mr. Frocken, Valerie thought sarcastically to herself. Valerie stuffed the lovely note into her blue binder that had "HEALTH AND SAFETY" written on the front in bold letters. She would be so embarrassed if Mr. Frocken caught her holding a note and read it aloud to the entire class.
"Today, we are going to learn about STDs, or better known as Sexual Transmitted Diseases. If you and someone are going to have sex, I highly recommend that you and that person get tested to see if you have an STD. Now, open your textbooks to page 32," He demanded, sitting down in his leather spinning chair. "The title should say "Sexual Transmitted Diseases" and the first subtitle should say "How to avoid Sexual Transmitted Diseases."
Valerie, along with the other students, flipped through their textbooks to page 32. She shuddered when she saw the title. She hated the idea of having sex before marriage. It was just wrong to her. Her mother did it before she married Valerie's father, and was ashamed of it. Especially when she ended up pregnant at 17 years old. Valerie knew that if she ever done what her mother had done, she would be ashamed of herself and so would her entire family.
"Are you okay?" Chance asked her in a whisper, making her jump slightly.
Valerie nodded, giving him a fake smile. "Of course I am. Why do you ask?"
"Because it seemed like you were bothered about what we are learning about."
She shook her head, trying to make him think that she nothing was wrong with her. She just hoped this class would go by in a hurry. She looked down at her red G-Shock watch; it was only 10:18 A.M. Today was going to be a long, excruciating day.

Valerie jumped out of her desk and rushed out of the classroom. Geometry was surprisingly quiet today, and didn't want to know the reason behind it. She walked outside to the student parking lot, waiting for Daniel to get there.
"Boo!" Someone exclaimed in her ear, making her squeal in fear.
"Daniel!" She exhaled, holding her hand over her heart to calm her breathing. She couldn't believe he would scare her like that. It isn't even Halloween yet! "Don't scare me like that! I get scared easily sometimes."
"I'm sorry, beautiful," He apologized, trying to contain his laughter. His smile gave it away, making her smile as well. "I really am. I didn't think you would be that scared."
"It's okay," She sighed. "It isn't the first time someone has done that, and it won't be the last time. Trust me."
"Did you get my note during third period?"
"Yes," She smiled. "It made me smile every time I read it. Who gave me the note though? I was thinking it was your cousin Laney, or Ashton and Troy."
"It was Ashton and Troy," He chuckled, leaning against his Ford F-250 King Ranch Super Duty. "They probably both dropped in on your desk since one of them can't do it."
"I better start getting home, so I can get ready. Do you know where I live?"
"My mom does, since your mom and mine were best friends growing up. I'll ask her, don't worry."
Valerie smiled, kissing Daniel on the cheek before she climbed into her own truck. She couldn't wait until tonight. Somehow, she had a feeling that tonight was going to be magical.
