It's never too early to start thinking about names.  Hey - maybe you've had them picked out for years!

Make sure you don't go straight to a boy band member's name though.  You'll regret it ten years from now.  Regardless, it's your kid. Be as traditional or wacky as you want.

We all worry when naming our kids because "it'll be their name forever". Well, duh.

There's always a baby name list floating around the internet to reference. Or a family name you want to incorporate. Bottom line, it's YOUR choice. Which is why you shouldn't share your thoughts with anyone.

Of course if your partner is active in this process let them have a say and try to find something you both love or can compromise on.

Make sure it flows with the last name and there is plenty of potential in the nickname department.

Even if you're not "nickname" people, it'll naturally happen. So if your heart is 100% set on Nicholas (and only Nicholas) make sure you don't mind the way Nick, Nicky, Nicky-Bear or Nico sound.

Think about those mean kids in school too. We all knew a Sweaty Betty (who never seemed to perspire) or a Nestor the Molestor (which is just insanely rude).

You can't get around them though. Kids are creative and will come up with something. You'll just have to teach your kid to be awesome and not put up with silly names like that.

If you're nontraditional like me and want to name your kids Mackenzie & Cozette, go for it. Yes, I said Cozette. Relax. It's not as unique as Apple, Honor, Blue Ivy or Chanel. It's your choice. Period.

The reason I say to keep it to yourself is because if you really love it, someone will change your mind. With comments like "that's so common though" or "that's such an old fashioned name" or "seriously?"...

Whether it's a Michael, Harrison or Colton. Or an Isabella, Grace or Cozette.

I've seen people question someone's choices and inevitably the mom-to-be changes their mind. Keep it to yourself until baby day.

By then it'll be on the birth certificate and everyone will just have to adjust.
