Secrets in Dentention

                  

So, I'm in detention. Well actually, we're all in detention. Me, Karma, Liam, Shane, Lauren, and Felix. It was all nice and quiet until Felix started poking around in everyone's business.

"You've obviously never watched Orange is the New Black? You don't ask someone why they're doing time. But since you did, I cut class to watch a foreign film."

I'm lying, but he doesn't know me that well to be able to tell.

"I fell asleep in Geometry." Karma spoke up.

Liam cleared his throat, "I took a conference call during Philosophy."

I looked around and noticed Shane and Lauren. Shane was emotionally eating away his pain because his boyfriend broke up with him. Duke found out he outed him. Lauren, well Lauren's wearing black gloves... I told Karma about my mom's affair but now with who. I—I just don't want to bring that up. She'll make an even bigger deal about it. I begged Lauren to keep quiet, because I don't want our parents to break up and I definitely don't want my parents to get back together. All they did was argue. But she's dead set on telling him. Theo then walks in and we boo and throw things at him. He announces that Lauren's needed to the principal's office, but I know better. They're still messing around. I pull Karma outside shortly after they leave for a bathroom break. It's an excuse to ask her about that big fat check she has from Liam's dad. Before I could get an answer we run into Theo and Lauren making out in the hallway. Right on cue, the principal shows up. Theo covers for us and takes us back to the classroom.

"I can't believe you went back to him after Amy and I helped you out him!"

"You outed him too?!? Why am I not surprised?" Liam says to Shane.

"Lauren he arrested my parents! And me and Amy!"

"Because he was protecting our secret!"

"Oh Lauren, when are you going to learn always come out."

"Yeah, because you out them! Raise your hand if you've ever been outed by Shane."

The majority of us raised our hands.

"Shane, admit it, you have an outing problem."

"Admit you're a corporate sellout!"

"Lauren Theo's just going to hurt you again..."

"Shut up Amy! And no one better not say a word about Theo. He'll lose his job."

"I won't tell on Theo if you won't tell on Farrah."

"Oh you mean that Farrah's hooking up with your dad?!?"

"What?!? You lied to me?"

I sighed and turned to Karma, "I didn't tell you because I know you'll be all weird and judgy about my dad."

"Your dad's an ass Amy!"

"My dad is a war journalist, so it's not up to him when he has to go journalize war. So yeah, big deal. I'm guilty of spending time with my father."

"No, you're guilty of yet telling another lie."

"Lauren, my mom says Hank was just a fling. It won't happen again. Please, can we just move on?"

"How funny, this is so familiar to when you slept with Liam. Did we just move on from that Amy?!?"

Okay. Now I'm mad.

"Speaking of Liam, when are you going to tell him you're carrying around a $250,000 check from his father in your name?"

The room fell silent, except for Felix.

"That's quite a big check. Seriously, that's like twice the standard size."

Karma rolled her eyes, "Liam's dad gave me the check to stay away from Liam, but I haven't cashed it yet."

Liam blew up, "Why did you even take it?!?"

"I was thinking about my parents. This money could get us our house back. You can hate your parents and their company, and be all for the arts, but you'll never understand what it's like to be me."

                  

"I'm not shocked at all my dad wrote that check, more than the fact that you accepted it."

"I'm not rich Liam! I didn't fall asleep in class because I've been studying too hard. I've been working every catering gig I could get because I live in a fucking juice truck!"

"If it was Amy instead of me, you wouldn't have even considered it."

This is true, but I'm her best friend. Out of the blue Shane just starts wailing.

"You're right, I am a terrible person. I outed you two as lesbians because I didn't want Lauren to become homecoming queen, and I outed Lauren's pills because I wanted to take her down. And I outed Duke because I wanted to ruin his life, but instead he told me he loved me. Now he hates me."

And of course, we all start to feel sorry for Shane and we band together. We come up with a plan to sneak out of detention and get Shane to Duke before he's gone forever. We sneak through the halls only to see Principal Tanner at the vending machines. This were we learn why Lauren's in detention. Apparently she was intertwined with Theo and to avoid getting caught she pulled the fire alarm. Yeah, here in the Hester halls you pull a fire alarm, there are serious consequences. She has black ink all over her hands, hence the gloves. This is also where we find out Felix is Turner's son. So Felix offers to be our distraction. When he does we sneak out.

Theo gives a ride in his cop car and we race to Duke's house. When we get there Shane runs out. I run out because I oddly have to vomit. Lauren then gets out because who wants me be stuck in a car with Liam and Karma. I tell her after the vomit, that she can tell her father if she wants, I understand. Lauren then says she won't and all is right with the world. I get back in the car to catch the tail end of Karma and Liam's conversation. So, she gave the check back.

"Can I ask you a question?" He says to Karma.

"Sure."

He looks to me and then back to her. "If it was Amy, you wouldn't have considered taking the check, right?"

Oh boy.

She gave him an apologetic look, "Don't make me answer—

"Answer the question."

"No." She said quickly as she squinted her eyes.

He scoffs, "No matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried, I would've always been second best to Amy. Since we're all telling the truth here why don't you start? You're in love with Amy and you've been in love with Amy since you two started faking it."

"Liam." I said with caution.

"Did you know that Amy? Did you know that she's in love with you? But unlike you she'll never have the guts to go with her heart instead of her head. It's too late anyways, because Amy's already moved on."

I looked at him and mouthed, "Don't."

Karma, who looked like she was about to cry looked up and the both of us. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means that Amy and I are still having sex Karma." Liam rips the check up and gets out of the car.

She slowly turns to me and I open the door and upchuck again.
