Rosalie
Sometimes being short is a huge disadvantage. Especially when you're trying to reach things off of the top shelf in the library!
"Crap, where's the librarian with the ladder when I need it?" I muttered under my breath.
Usually I would ask Noah to grab it for me, but he and Drew were having lunch with his basketball teammates and talking about their plays for the game later. And Erica was off in the bathroom reapplying her makeup, agreeing to meet up with me later for a quick bite and a small discussion about how to organize and decorate the gym for tonight.
It was finally Friday, the end of the first week back at school, and the school is holding our annual welcome back rally. The rally usually consists of a basketball game, halftime performances from the cheerleaders and the dance team, and crowd spirit games and speeches from leadership. Our school has great spirit and the rallies are always great to be at, but Erica, the boys, and I were usually always busy because we're so good at being involved. Yay.
Librarian, now would be a good time for you to pop up out of nowhere.. why is it that when you don't ask for someone or something, it's there but in the first sign of need, nada?
"Here I got it." A long pair of nicely tanned arms reached over my head and grabbed the math textbook with ease.
"Thank you! I really appreciate it." I turned around to look at the life saver, but I almost dropped my textbook in the process, "Johnny? Jonathan Brady?"
Talk about a blast to the past.
His eyes mirrored mine and widened, I mean from what I can imagine mine were probably just as wide, "Rose? Rosalie Garcia?"
"Oh my gosh, how long has it been?"
"Too long. I've missed you!"
We both shook ourselves of the shock and he wrapped his arms around me, I hugged him back. "Wow, you haven't lost your touch. The famous Johnny hug!"
Someone hushed us, "Rose, still as loud and vibrant as ever," we pulled apart and he smiled wide, "So, how are you? How is everything?"
I dragged Johnny over to the librarian's desk and I checked out the textbook, then put it away in my bag. Soon enough, we were sitting on a bench in the slightly deserted hallway. Now I didn't have to worry about be quieted, whoops.
I spoke again, "Okay. That's better, no more librarians and rules of the quiet. Everything has been pretty great, actually. After the move it wasn't too hard to transition into my new elementary school and I've met some really great people since then. How about you?"
He took some time to gather his thoughts. "Ah, yes. Well I, on the other hand, was actually crushed that you moved away because I lost my best friend! I pretty much hid inside my room and didn't even touch gummy worms anymore, because they were our favorite snack to share.."
My mouth dropped, "No, really? I'm so sorry! I didn't have much of a choice and I-"
He shook his head and laughed, "Got you! Still fall for those easy traps, don't we?"
I scowled, "I'm beginning to remember why I enjoyed leaving. To get away from you and your constant meanness." I stuck out my tongue.
"We both know that's not true, you put up with me and dished it right back. You were definitely not the girl to mess with, I learned that from the day we met and continued to see that as we hung out.. like every day."
"Remember the day we met?"
"Vividly."
Johnny, or Jonathan, was my first guy best friend from the elementary school I went to before I moved and eventually met Noah, Alec, Matthew, and Katie. It's a funny story how we met actually, I had just fought with one of my old girl friends and the name is escaping me. I bumped into Johnny just as I was storming off..
