After staying at Miss Bluefoot's for about a week, Millard got used to being clothed again. He had also become great friends with Gideon, Alice, and Fabian. Well, "friend" at this point wasn't the right word to decribe Alice, and he had told her so. "Girlfriend" unfortunately, was also not the right word. He had told her how he felt, and she felt the same way, but Millard hadn't asked her on a date, or even kissed her. He was too shy, and with so many kids around they hardly had a moment to themselves to talk about it.
Millard was on his way to find Alice and passed Gideon on the way there. Millard had stopped to tie his shoelace, and something slammed against him. Gideon had him pinned to the wall by the shoulders.
"Who are you?! How did you get in here?!" He yelled.
Millard put his hands up, and noticed his fingernails were getting quite long.
Wait.
Fingernails?
Millard could see his fingernails. And his hands. And the rest of himself.
"Well? WHO ARE YOU?!" Gideon demanded.
"It's me!" Millard sputtered. He was taken aback by his own sudden visibility.
Gideon stepped back. "Millard?"
Millard nodded. He's never really nodded before.
"What happened?" Gideon asked.
Before Millard could answer, a tall girl in a sundress came bounding down the hallway.
"And you are?" Millard asked. She was quite pretty, and Millard was surprised he had never seen her before."Millard?" she gasped.
"Alice?"
Millard stepped towards her, and simply stared. Her hair was wavy, and had a natural, almost ombre look to it. Darker at the top, and gradually got lighter. Her hair was incredibly long, and ended just at her waist. Her eyes were a peculiar violet color.
Alice ran her hand through Millard's hair. It was dark, and somewhat well groomed.
"You have really pretty eyes." Alice said while running her fingers across his face.
Gideon had run off somewhere. Millard hadn't noticed he was gone until Alice pointed it out. After Millard and Alice had been playing with Alice's hair for a couple minutes, Millard had thought that they should see themselves in mirrors. They walked to the bathroom, which had a very large mirror. When he saw his reflection, he stopped in his tracks.
He hadnt seen himself in so long, he had forgotten what he looked like. He stared at his reflection and put his hands all over his face. He didnt realise he was crying until Alice pointed it out. She hugged him. How is she not crying? Millard thought. She hugged him and let him cry. After he calmed down, Alice went to her room, but went so quickly Millard didn't hear why. He rushed to his own room and stripped down. It was weird seeing his own body. Fabian banged on the door.
"Just a second!"
"Mill, I need to talk to you now." Fabian growled.
Millard quickly put his pants back on and said he could come in.
"Something is very wrong." He said urgently.
"What could possibly be wrong?" Millard was over the moon.
"No one's peculiarity is working. That's why you and Alice are both visible." Fabian explained. "Where is she?"
She walked through the door at that very moment.
"Woah..." Fabian said as she crossed the threshold. "To bad we cant usually see you."
"Thank You?"
"Anyway, we should head downstairs. The ymbrynes called a house-wide meeting." Fabian continued.
Now that Millard looked closer, Fabain didnt have his normal healthy glow. He just looked normal. The three headed to where the meeting was being held. All eyes turned to Alice and Millard once they walked in.
"Who are they?" Jamie asked.
"It's Millard and Alice!" Someone shouted.
Everyone for some reason started to applaud. Millard gave a little bow, and Alice curtsied. Everyone sat down and waited for the ymbrynes to speak. Miss Peregrine stood up.
"Children, I do not know how to tell you this, but..." She paused, trying to find words.
"Your peculiarities have been stolen."
