Haley closed the door to her mother's room. Mae's crying only became louder as Haley walked back into the living room.

"Mae. Please calm down for a second." Haley said getting frustrated. In the moment she felt so overwhelmed she didn't know what to do.

Mae ignored Haley's request and kept bawling. The older girl walked out of the house with her younger sister clinging onto her body. Her eyes were filled with tears at this point.

Once she reached the front yard she let out a sob. She doubled over into the ground and cried while cradling her baby sister. Miraculously MaeLynne stopped crying.

"Aye-Lee no cry please." She said.

This time Haley was the one that didn't listen. She just cried harder hearing Mae's voice. MaeLynne in fright of Haley's breakdown stepped away from her sister.

Haley buried her face into her knees and formed her body into a ball on the grass. She heard people speaking but she didn't care. She wasn't thinking about how she looked, she just wanted to let all her sadness out.

She caved into the sorrow around her. The chatter around her wouldn't stop so she knew she needed to pull herself together.

She felt something brush against her back and jumped up. She turned around only to find Dianna and Demi comforting Mae. Haley wondered how they were always there when she needed them.

Dianna wrapped the young girl in her arms. Haley was going to gather herself together but the embrace of Dianna made her cry harder.

She cried until she had no strength left. The loud sobs ended with Haley hiccuping to catch her breath. Tears still streamed down her face.

Dianna wiped the tears from Haley's eyes. Haley blushed when she realized both Demi and her mom watched her breakdown.

Dianna quickly caught on and whispered into Haley's ear. "It's alright, you're safe with me."

Haley had to bite her tongue to keep from crying again.

The atmosphere became quiet. The group of them made it into Dianna's car but they were still parked in front of Demi's house.

"Sweetheart, what happened?" Dianna asked after a long silence.

Haley didn't answer.

"Mommy mad today." MaeLynne answered for Haley once she realized she wasn't going to talk.

"Can we just drive away please?" Haley begged.

"Sweetheart, I would love to but I need to know what was going on first." Dianna told the girl.

"My mom's just upset because it's Father's Day and she's all alone." Haley said.

Demi's mom put the car into drive and started lightly hitting the gas peddle.

"Her being upset got you freaked out that much?" Dianna asked the girl.

"Yeah." Haley said quickly dismissing the question.

"Mommy throw pillow at Aye-Lee." Maelynne spoke up.

"Mae, I'm okay don't worry please."

"Haley mommy no love me." Mae said starting to cry.

Haley wrapped her arms around her baby sister after her unexpected outburst.

Demi cuddled in with Mae too.
"Okay, I don't want to invade in your personal life but if this is something that occurs often then I want you to be honest with me."

"No. I think it's just- today being Father's Day and neither of our dad's were here, it just got to her." Haley said feeling uncomfortable.

"Alright. I can empathize with your mother so I'll let this slip by. You know you're always welcome in our house."

Haley nodded.

"I don't want you to ever feel afraid in your home? Call me, Demi or just knock at our door. Neither of you two girls are an inconvenience. Alright?"

Haley just nodded. Her eyes filled with tears. How could someone else's mother be more caring than her own mother.
