The school days are coming close to an end and the students are putting less effort into everything they do.

A group of about twenty five students sit in front of Ms. Clark with a bored look on every single one of the students faces.

"You know what? This isn't working. Everyone we're taking a break from math, we are having a discussion."

"Can we talk about next year." A girl spoke up. "What is high school actually like?"

"My brother's in high school and he said the work gets so much harder." A boy answered. "And you don't have the same classes with everybody."

"Interests change as we get older. By the time you have reached high school you should probably have a clearer image of what you want to do when you're older. It's fine if you don't but the courses you take will be a guideline for your career paths." Ms. Clark spoke some wise words.

Demi and Haley both locked eyes and made a scared expression. Haley had no idea what she wanted to do when the future had approached her. Demi on the other hand had her heart set to be a singer.

It was father's day and the topic of male parent figures have been a tough one for both Haley and Demi. Of course Demi had an amazing step dad who cared for her but that doesn't mean she forgot about her biological dad.

"I'm telling you, something is off about Haley's home life." Dianna said.

"Well, I have my suspicions too but we can't go around making accusations. Their business is their business." Demi replied.

"Not unless they are in harm."

"Mom, have they ever looked harmed. Have you ever seen bruises or scabs on Haley or MaeLynne?" Demi questioned her mother.

"There is more to it then that. There's emotion abu-"

"I know. You don't have time explain it to me." Demi's said setting her head down on the table.

"I'm sorry baby." Demi's mom said.

"Mama, I'm just so tired." Demi said almost admitting defeat.

"Well get some rest."

"No. Not tired like that. I'm tired of wondering where dad is. I'm tired of thinking that he's going to come back. I'm tired of thinking he's going to hurt us again. I'm tired of worrying about Haley because she just always seems tired too." Demi breathed out.

"Baby." Dianna said with tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around her daughters body and hugged her tight.

Haley dragged her feet home after school. She flipped her backpack over to her front and grabbed her keys from the front pocket.

Suddenly she felt an uneasy feeling in her stomach. She was quicker with her actions as she made her way in.

She saw Mae out in the living room crying. Normally Mae would be in her mom's room just keeping quiet to herself.

"Baby what's wrong?" Haley crouched down to Mae's level. Without a moment of wait Mae jumped into Haley's arms.

"Mommy-" Mae began but she was cut off by an ear piercing scream.

Haley's heart beat out of her chest.

"What if there's a man in the room?" She thought.

She remembered her mom's story of how Mae came to be. She didn't like to think about it too much so she pushed it aside.

Mae only cried harder as she held onto her sister for dear life.

Haley went into panic mode. She had no idea what was going on.

"Mae can you please sit on the couch for me."

"No!" Mae yelled gripping her sister harder.

"I scared Aye-Lee." This was the first time that Mae had said no to Haley.

Haley was also scared out of her mind.

Haley slowly walked towards her mom's room where she heard light sobs. Her heart broke whenever she heard her mom cry.

She slowly turned the doorknob and Mae dug her face into Haley's neck. Haley sighed as Mae's cries became louder.

The older girl hesitently pushed the door open and it looked like the room had been a war zone.

Cracked bottles littered the floor. Leaving sharp broken glass everywhere. The room stunk of strong perfume. Haley's eyes travelled around the room until she saw her mom in the bed crying.

"Mom?"

Haley couldn't even take a step into the room with risking her foot getting cut open.

Their mom turned around, the blanket rolled off her. She was laying in bed wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. Her eyes were totally bloodshot, hair a mess and scratch marks littered every piece of skin she was showing.

"Was somebody here?" Haley asked.

Her mom had been zoned out but her eyes finally focused on her daughters.

"I want that thing out!" Her mom screamed she was sure to ennounciate the word thing.

That was a sudden outburst Haley was not expecting.

The next thing they know a pillow is being hurdled in the kids direction. Haley turned around and took it to her back.

She felt no physical pain. But she had never been more hurt in her life.
