"Where do I turn?" Dianna turned her head as she asked Haley.

"The next right." Haley spoke.

Haley had been trying to contact her father and the call finally went through. They spoke on the phone and he told them Mae and her mom were at his place.

Haley was still sniffling. She had never been this worried in her entire life.

"Sorry I'm causing so much trouble." Haley said feeling guilty. She was bouncing her leg up and down and fiddling with her fingers.

"Haley you're not causing any tro-" Demi started.

"No worries. We're going to find your mom and Mae." Dianna said cutting her daughter off.

Dianna was glad to be helping Haley. She was just annoyed that her mother would do this to her daughter. It made her angry to see how scared Haley was. How could a mother put her own daughter, her own flesh and blood through so much hurt?

Haley noticed that Dianna seemed annoyed. She thought it was because of her and she felt really guilty.

"Okay, but I'm still sorry." She said playing with her fingers.

Dianna sighed. "Honey you have nothing to be sorry for. I'm a little upset with your mother since she's making you go through so much trouble."

"Oh."

The car ride was silent. Demi was looking outside the window the whole ride. Her mind was wandering. She worried for Haley's family but right night she was in a world of her own. How fast is this car going? How much would it hurt to leap out? She didn't want to jump out she just wanted to know how much it would hurt.

She had weird thoughts like that all the time. Subconsciously thinking about death or ways to die. It scared her at times. How her mind would default to the thought of death when she was daydreaming.

"It's this apartment building right here." Haley said breaking Demi's thoughts.

"You don't have to stick around I'll be okay." Haley said unbuckling her belt.

"I'll stick around until you find Mae." Said Dianna.

She wasn't thinking about how Haley would get home.

"Oh okay. Thank you for driving me here." Haley said getting out of the car.

Haley grabbed the cold medal handle and bent her arm to open the door to the apartment building. The hallways smelled like a hotel. She buzzed her father's suite and waited until the door opened.

She checked to see if Demi was still waiting and she was. She hated that she was making someone else's family worried for her. The door opened and Haley was let in.

She had only been here a handful of times but knew her way around. One foot at a time she climbed up the stairs. Her hand glided on the smooth wooden railing attached to the wall.

She reached the third story of building and made her way through the hallway. She looked up at every door until she saw the twenty fourth suite.

Her small fist hit the door three times and she stepped back to wait for it to open.

"I didn't invite you here." She heard through the door. She recognized that it was her father's voice. He was calm when he spoke.

"Well our daughter missed you." Haley's mother said.

That made no sense. Haley was still standing on the other side of the door waiting to be let in. MaeLynne wasn't his daughter. She was. Why would her mom bring her?

Haley knocked on the door three more times and stepped back once more. She was starting to get a little impatient.

She saw the knob slowly turn as the door opened gently.

"Haley!" Her dad said smiling. He gave her a tight side hug and a small kiss on the cheek.

"Aye-Lee!" Mae cried running towards her big sister. She had tears running down her face.

"Aye-Lee." She cried into her sisters leg.

"Shh, it's okay Mae." She said kneeling down to her height.

Her father just watched her.

"Lady are you insane?" He asked. "You come here telling me the little one is my daughter when she clearly is not."

"Haley you ruined everything for me!" Her mother yelled.

Haley flinched at her tone.

"Don't worry Haley, you didn't do one wrong thing." He said. Funny, a long of people have been telling her that lately.

"You really thought I believed you?" He asked their mother in a tone that belittled her.

She just shrugged.

Just then Haley's phone from her back pocket rang. It wasn't on vibrate and her ringtone rang loud in the silent room.

"Haley, please go answer that in my room and take this lovely young lady with you." He said.

Haley obeyed what he said. She took ahold of Mae's hand and walked to the end of the short hallway to his room.

She had only been in his room once when her dad couldn't find his car keys and she had followed him in. Haley's dad usually treated her daughter out when they were allowed to see each other.

Haley wished she could see her father more but the court had given her mother primary custody so she controlled how much she got to see him. He and Haley had no say which didn't seem fair.

Haley set Mae on his bed and reached for her phone that was sitting in her pocket.

She took too long to answer and the call had gone to voice mail.

She flipped opened her phone to see who was calling. The screen read 'Demi <3'.

Haley clicked the button to dial back. It only rang once and she heard Demi's voice.

"Hello" Demi said letting out a relieved breath.
