I wake up wrapped in Toms arms. Once I remember what went down last night, I get out of bed and get dressed quickly. I take the tunnels to the medstand for some alone time. I sit on a bed and just think.

I needed to help everyone get out of here. I needed to start leading again. I need to get my act together. I sigh, putting my face in his hands. I was scared. Scared to death. Gally did something to me. He didn't just punch me - he left me feeling terrified and weak. I'm not weak. I could take on any guy in this glade and win. I knew all their weaknesses. Gally just - took me by surprise. He got inside my head.

I didn't know how my friendship with Minho was going to continue. I didn't want him to feel upset, but the feelings he confessed made me have to approach it with caution.

I was broken down, sad, and scared. Too many terrible things have happened to me, but I wasn't going to let that stop me. I wanted to get back to the Syd that I was before Tom got here. Sure, I love him - but he's changing me. Actually - I wanted to get better. Look better, get stronger, act fiercer. Don't let anyone throw me around. I wanted to be that Syd.

Suddenly, Newt bursts in the door. He lets out a relieved sigh and hugs me.

"Syd! Don't run off like that, I thought a griever got you," he says, gripping me tighter.

"I just needed some alone time..." I say. "I want to get back to the hard ass that was Syd before Tom came here,"

"Hard ass? No. You were sweet, an amazing person. My best friend," he says, sitting next to me.

"Yeah, yeah. But I want to be even better than her. Stronger, prettier, more powerful. I don't want to let anyone walk over me like Gally and Minho,"

"Okay. Well, maybe why we work on getting out of the glade, you build yourself up again. You deserve it. You do so much for everyone - and we pay you back by breaking you down. Do whatever you need, just don't put yourself in danger. Please. I need you, Syd. No matter what version of Syd you are. I need you," he say. I smile and hug him.

"Thank you, Newt..." I whisper. He kisses the side of my head and leaves me to myself. I take the tunnels to the gym. It was normally only for builders and runners, but I wanted to use it. I pick up the weights and start bench pressing, adding more and more weight until I can't take it anymore and my arms are burning. Now that my arms were too tired to function, I move onto the treadmill. It was sent up when we requested equipment to help us in the maze. Of course, they didn't help up with the actual maze, but helped up et in shape. I get on and start slow like with the weights. I speed up, going faster and faster until my legs are about to give out. I slow down, then stop completely. I go back into my room - which was empty - and shower, washing the sweat off me and helping smooth my aching muscles.

I change into clean underwear, but don't get dressed quite yet. I lock the door and close the curtains completely. I look through for a more powerful look then plain jeans and a t-shirt. I find black jeans, then take out a knife. I purposefully rip them in certain places, before pulling them on. I find a loose racerback tank top. It was see-through and normally I would wear a camisole under it. Nope. Not today. I pick out a better bra than the one I was wearing. A black lace one, that had intricate straps in the back. I pull on shoes I never wore - ankle boots. They were tan, and had almost no heel. I could walk perfectly normal in them. I did know they would eventually have to come off, when we were going to leave the glade.

Then, I go to the bathroom. I open up my makeup. I had plenty, since I normally wore little to none. I put foundation on my entire face - something I don't do at all. Memories flooded back to me. I remember doing my makeup in the lab. I do a contour, and add blush. I didn't realize I used so much before I came her. I do a tan smokey eye. I remember seeing it on myself in the memories. I line my lips, and fill them in with a light pink shade I've never used before. When I asked the creators for makeup, they went overboard. Now I have plenty of choices. I use a light pink blush and then move onto hair. I do my curl technique, then tie half of it up, adding volume. I add a small necklace, too.

Then, I walk out of my room

Then, I walk out of my room. I walk into the map room, and all eyes go on me. Newt gives me a small smile. Tom and Minho's mouths hang open. Chuck looks at me confused. Teresa smiles, but also looks slightly confused.

"Syd...?" Chuck asks. I smile at him.

"So this is the powerful look you want?" Newt asks.

"Wow..." Thomas gasps.

"Why'd you...?" Minho asks before fading away and staring more.

"It looks good," Teresa says.

"Oh, and I forgot to mention, you can use anything in the bathroom, Teresa. It's all the girl stuff in there," I say. She smiles.

"So how far are we?" I ask, placing my hands on the table, and leaning over slightly to look at the papers.

"We have awhile to go, but we have the first word," Teresa says.

"Float," Newt adds.

"Okay. How much more to go?" I ask. Chuck holds up a rather big stack of papers. I sigh.

"Look, Syd. We need you to round up more gladers to help us. Then - you need to run the rest of the glade while we finish," Newt says.

"How many?"

"Maybe...10?"

"Done," I say, before heading to the cafeteria. Everyone's eyes land on me. I round up the ten most trustworthy gladers, and send them to the map room. I find a spot in the cafeteria, watching over everyone. Once lunch is up, I send everyone to their spots except the track-hoes. The green house was shattered, and they couldn't be out in the open. I also keep the baggers. The bodies were never brought back. There were five track-hoes, and 4 baggers.

"Okay. Chad... what was your second pick job?" I ask.

"Builder," He says.

"Great, go to their building," I say. I move on.

"What about you Gabe?" I ask.

"Bagger,"

"Pick another,"

"You're still a Med-Jack right?"

"Yes..."

"Then I'll be a med-jack,"

"You know what? How about you're a slopper. Go," I say. He sighs and leaves. I assign the rest. Two more went to builders. One more slopper, one med-jack, two cooks, and one slicer. I go to the builders.

"Hey guys. How many of you don't have a job?" I ask. Three raise their hands. I throw fabric and a couple sewing kits at them.

"We have 10 more backpack and a dog cage to make. Make them soon so we can start packing," I say. They nod and get to work. Then I go to the cooks.

"All of you need to ration the food. We're leaving soon and we need to stock up. Not to mention most of the animals died in the first attack, along with most of the crops," I say. They nod and start sorting things. I go to the medjacks next, and tell them to ration the supplies as well. I get the sloppers to help clean up the place more, and then the slicers to cut up all the already harvested meat from before the first attack. After, I go back to my room and lay down for a second. I've never been in charge before. It was amazing - and scary...ish. I was just nervous about screwing up. I sigh and relax for a second until lunch is called. I get in and eat before checking on everyone. The people cracking the codes were moving faster. They've already gotten another word. Catch. Everyone finishes their jobs for the days and head in when I call it. I get ready for bed and fall asleep, cuddled up to Tom.
