(Flashback)
My head. It hurts. "Sweetie. How are you feeling? You've been sick for the past couple of days." I opened my eyes to see my mother standing in front of me with an old ragged towel, moisten with hot water. "Here put this on." I grabbed the towel and set it on my head.
"Hey sis!" I looked to my left to see my little brother. Jake. "How you feeling?" He smiled happily with his white hair and blue eyes faced me. I could barely see his whole face. He was really small. Jake couldn't reach up to my bed without jumping.
"I'm okay." My voice sounded so raspy and it was so dry. I coughed and smiled. "I think I'll be better soon."
"Jake! Get away from her! You can catch the cold also!" My mom yelled at him as she motioned towards the door.
"But mom..." Jake whined with cute puppy eyes.
"You know how easily we can get sick." My mom said, glaring at him.
"Fine..." Jake looked at the ground then looked back at me with a wide smile. "Take care, sis!" He waved as he ran out of my room.
"Ugh... Jake just doesn't understand." My mother sighed.
"It's fine mom."
"No it isn't... You know it's not." To be honest, I do understand. I understand perfectly. The cold can kill you in a day or two if you caught it. Luckily for me, I'm still alive. Though. I can't believe it since I haven't been receiving the medication I should be getting but of course. My mother can't afford it. We can't even afford school! "So... please... if Jake comes inside your room tell him to get out." I nodded as she walked out. "Take care my sweetie."
(Time skip)
For the past couple of days, I've been getting better and better. The cold was slowly going away. Slowly sitting up after a couple of weeks of being on the bed looking up at the ceiling and sleeping for hours. I sighed and got up, extending my arms out to keep my balance, slowly walking out of my room.
"Karin!!!" Jake crashed into me hard as he hugged me tightly. "You're out of bed! And you're not dead!!" I giggled and hugged him back.
"Karin?" I looked up to see a brown haired man with deep brown eyes. His hair was short and all over the place. He looked hungry and dirty as he stood in front of me and my brother, holding a bouquet of flowers.
My brother quickly let go off me. My smile grew into a big one. "Jared!" I laughed and hugged him tightly. My one and only boyfriend.
"Hey. How have you been, my beautiful angel?" His strong arms slowly wrapped around my waist as he let his head lay down on my shoulder.
"I've been great. What about you my handsome prince?"
"I've been worried about you but now that you're okay. I'm great." He slowly pulled me away. Jared's hands slowly moved from my waist to my cheeks, cupping them. "You know, I love you, right?" I smiled and nodded. "Do you love me?"
"I love you a lot." I replied.
"Good." He slowly leaned towards me and I did the same. His face was close to mine as I felt his hot breath on my lips.
"EEEWWWW!!!" We quickly moved away from each other, looking at Jake. Totally forgetting he was there. I laughed and looked back at Jared.
"Hey. You know. It's almost your birthday." Jared said, scratching the back of his neck. "And you know, I can't afford a present for you. Cause. Well you know. I'm poor."
"I understand." I nodded. "And you know I am too. It won't be a big party. Just a small little feast and that's it. Your family and my family." Jared nodded and handed the bouquet of flowers to me. "Well I have to go. I need to take care of my brothers and sisters. Take care Karin." He quickly ran out, waving goodbye as he ran away.
