As I walk with Petey down the hallway, I notice a group of girls looking out one of the windows at school. I stand on my tiptoes and look out to see Sunshine, practicing Tai Chi or something.

"What you lookin at old Sunshine for?" Petey and I ask them.

They roll their eyes and start walking away

"I'm the one dominating on the field" Petey continues

"Who cares about the field?" One girl asks

"Well, I don't wanna break your heart, but Sunshine is from California" I say pointedly.

"Yeah, a California dreamboat" one girl says

"No, I don't think you understand." I continue.

"Sunshine is from California. He's a Californian-" Petey says.

He's interrupted by a bigger guy, grabbing his arm and spinning him around. "Why you lookin' at my girl?"

Petey looks around in confusion. "I don't see any livestock around here, so I don't know what you're talking about."

Another guy grabs Petey's shoulder and whirls him around. They slam him into a locker and start punching him.

A group of black guys and Gerry start helping me pull guys off of him. I yank one guy away, and he whirls around to punch me. I duck and lift up my knee, hitting him where no guy should ever be hit.

I yank another guy off and he shoves me. I rep right back and punch him right in the nose. A few of the guys around me back up.

"Petey, get the girls out of here!" Julius yells.

I help Gerry hold back Julius, who is yelling at some guy. "Y'all better back off me now man. Go!" Julius says to them.

"Looks like you went to the zoo and made some new friends, Bertiers." The first guy says to Gerry and I, before walking off, leaving Julius, Gerry, and I in the hallway.

"Ohh, big smart guy, huh?" Gerry calls after him. He turns to me. "Let me see your knuckles"

I roll my eyes and give him my hand. My knuckles are a little bruised from hitting that guy, but there's no major damage.

Gerry laughs a little. "You are, by far, the coolest little sister ever."

"And don't you forget it" I laugh, playfully punching him in the shoulder.
