first day of camp
"Defensive team, get on that bus, Offensive team, that one!" I point to each bus, then get on defensive. I feel like an old pro at this point, honestly.
We sing some good 'ol soul music on the way down, adding snaps and claps when needed. I even get Yoast to join in for a song. We unload everything, and Boone leads everyone to the cafeteria to call role, which is the most boring, arduous task I've ever had to do. Afterwards, though, I get to go to my bunk, which is cool since I'm sharing with the same people as last year. Ray, Petey, Sunshine, and Alan. It feels like a reunion of sorts, being back in our old bunk.
The first day of training feels like a cushion. The team had been through much tougher circumstances. The newbies were really sweating, though, to the point where you could clearly tell the difference between a Titans veteran and a Titan's newbie.
At the end of the day, the freshmen were ready to die. I set out water for everyone, and they all pushed their way forwards gratefully. As usual, Alan helped me carry everything in because he's such a great boyfriend, and because there was no way I could carry a whole table and a water jug at the same time.
