I looked straight ahead, steadying my hands. I bit my lip in concentration as a bead of sweat trickled down my forehead. I guided the brush across my eyelid for one last stroke,
"And we're done!"
I smiled to myself in the mirror as I studied my eyes in satisfaction. Now that's a perfectly winged eye.
It was saturday night, the night Harry was taking me on a date. I didn't know where we were going, but what I did know was that I was to wear something casual. So I went with a pair of skinny jeans, a loose gray shirt, and a pair of black leatherette slip-ons. I also threw in some several earpiercings and a gold wishbone necklace because why not? I wore minimal make up, well except for the winged eyeliner, of course, and simply blow dried my hair.
I was ready to go and just as I was doing one more look at myself in the mirror, I heard footsteps moving towards my bedroom door. Shit!
I scrambled to my feet, quickly darting towards my bed. In a rush, I jumped and came flying onto the matress, hurriedly pulling the duvet up to my neck so it was covering my whole body. I could hear the doorknob twisting and that's when I closed my eyes and steadied my breathing.
"Demi?" Dorothy called out to me but I didn't respond. You see, to be able to fool somebody into thinking that you are asleep, you need to be able to act the part. Like for instance, if I were truly asleep at this very moment, I wouldn't be able to hear Dorothy call out to me from the door, and therefore, I wasn't gonna answer her immediately. I was gonna wait for the right moment.
"Demetria?" Dorothy sang again and just like the last time, I didn't answer.
I twitched when her hand touched my shoulder, I didn't hear her walk into the room and so I was a little startled when I felt her hand. Fuck, I hope she didn't notice anything. If she did, then I could just say goodbye to my date with Harry 'cause I'm not going anywhere if I was caught.
She shook my shoulder lighty, calling out to me in a hushed tone. I still didn't answer.
Not yet.
"Demetria," she shook me a little harder now, her voice increasing as well.
Not yet.
"Demi..." I could tell she was getting exasperated by the tone of her voice. Well folks, it's showtime.
Slowly, I stretched, fisting the air as I let a yawn roll out of my lips and then I sleepily opened my eyes, making sure to squint like the sun was up in my face. I blinked a few times to make my acting a little more convicing and rubbed my eyes with my knuckles just like how kids do when they wake up after a long nap.
"Dorothy?" I mentally grinned at the throaty voice that I managed to muster. She looked so guilty for waking me up and I had to stop myself from giving myself a nice pat at the back.
"Demi, darling, I'm sorry to wake you up but you need to eat dinner and take your medicines."
I glanced over to my bedside table where a tray full of food was placed and I could see a couple of painkillers placed on a tiny saucer.
"How are your cramps feeling? Have they subsided?"
Yes, that's right. I told her I had my period and I was suffering from cramps. Believe me, I had no choice! My mum had to go to LA for an emergency meeting with my grandfather regarding Posh N' Plush San Francisco and she instructed Dorothy to look after me until she gets back. According to Dorothy, my mother specifically told her not to let me out of the house and she also said that I were to have no visitors over, none whatsoever. That meant no Brianna, no Raph, and especially no Harry. So yeah, ever since I got back from my trip with Harry, Dorothy has basically been watching me like a vulture hovering over rotting meat.
