DEMI'S POV

As soon as I arrived at home, the smell of roast chicken and baked pastry filled my nostrils and the sound of pots sizzling and knives slicing rang through my ears. I placed my bag on the living room sofa and made my way to the kitchen to see what Dorothy was whipping up. As I entered the kitchen, instead of seeing Dorothy behind the stove, I was taken by surprise to discover who it was,

"Mum?" She snapped her head from what she was cooking at the sound of my voice. "Oh, hi dear. How was your day?" She smiled to me while stirring the soup that she was making. She's cooking and she's being nice to me again, something's not right here.

"It was... okay." I tell her leaving out some of the details. "What's with all the food?" I asked her skeptically as I sat on top of the counter. I popped a grape from the fruit basket beside me into my mouth as I waitef for her to answer.

"Well, since its your birthday I decided to prepare something special for the occasion." She said to me while shaking some salt into the dish. Something truly isn't right here.

"Where's Dorothy?" I asked her again.

"She just went to the supermarket to buy something. She'll be back later." She answered me.

"But, I thought we were going to eat outside?" I asked her yet another question. She put a lid on the pot that she was using and wiped her hands on a paper towel before turning to me.

"I forgot to tell you that there were a slight change of plans. I invited the Jonas family over for dinner, you know, so we could celebrate your birthday together. I figured you wouldn't mind since Nick would be coming and I just thought it would be nice for you to spend your birthday with your boyfriend and his family. You don't mind do you?"

So, this is why she was oddly being nice to me. She wants me to be to be on my best behaviour and be polite to her when Nick's family comes over. Nick's parents has been business partners with my Mum for almost half a decade now, even before we moved here in London. When they knew that my mum was going to transfer to London, Nick's family decided to move here also, considering Nick's mother was born here and they already had a few properties established here, they figured it wouldn't be a hard move.

Our parents always wanted Me and Nick to be together since I was my mum's only daughter and Nick was his parents' only son, they figured they'd hook us up so that their ties wouldn't just be at business level but would reach to family level as well. But Me and Nick weren't that close and we barely hung out with each other before. We only started hanging out about a year ago, our parents were thrilled and thought we were hitting it off, but what they didn't know was that we were only hanging out because we didn't know alot of people that time due to the fact that we just moved here from L.A.. The only people we knew were Raph, Nick's cousin who was born and raised here in London and Brianna, whom was the only person I met on the first day of school. Eventually, as time passed, Me and Nick became very close friends but we only started dating two weeks ago, when he confessed to me that he liked me and wanted me to be his girlfriend.

"Demi?" My mum's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

" No... Not at all. " I answered and she sighed in relief. The truth is, I never like Nick's parents because they were always so arrogant and self righteous but for the sake of my peace, I decided to just agree with my mMm's plans for my birthday, and settled to simply put on a fake smile when they get here.

"Good. Now tell me, what do you want me to whip up for dessert?" She asked me with false enthusiasm.

"Anything will do." I answer inattentively as I popped another grape into my mouth. "When will they be coming?" I asked her as I jumped off the counter.
