DENIS
Moments. Life is made up of moments. Specific things you remember. Good and bad. Joining Asking Alexandria. Leda's wrong number selfie. Finding out Leda had a boyfriend - I was more upset than I originally thought. And then the drama with James. And the Olympics. And now. What do I do? How am I supposed to be okay with this? What do I say? Moments like when the mother of your unborn child can't answer her fucking phone. Is never home. "She should have been here hours ago?" I sighed to myself as I picked at the skin pealing away from my finger nails. Ben sighed even louder.
"Calm down. It's probably traffic. She's fine." Ben sounded almost annoyed with my worrying.
"No," I challenged. "I'm allowed to be upset. She never answers her phone. She never calls me back. She's almost never home, Ben. What am I to do about that?" I stood off the living room couch and walked down the hall to our bedroom. Contrary to the fact that I am endlessly annoyed with her recent actions, things were good. Happy. The baby was healthy and well. We loved our house. Leda loved her new job. We loved each other. I flopped down onto the thick white comforter over our king size bed. I felt something hard crash against my shoulder blade. I rolled over and removed the blanket to fine Leda's phone. I sighed angrily, and resisted the urge to whip it across the room. I had called her a million times. And she didn't even know it. I unlocked her phone to delete all the messages I had left her, when I saw a new text to someone named Danny. Who does she know named Danny? I clicked it open.
Danny - When are you coming? I have a surprise.
Leda - leaving now. Should I be scared?
Danny - Of course not. Im so excited to see my babies
"What the fuck." I said loudly.
"What, mate?" Ben appeared at the door.
"I just-" Suddenly I heard the front door opening. "you need to leave."
"What? Why?" Ben snorted.
"Because. Get out."
"Denis! I'm home." I walked into the living room to see Leda with arm fulls of shopping bags. "Oh, hi Ben." Leda pulled her sunglasses off and smiled brightly.
"Hey, sorry I was just leaving. Gotta get home to Ciara." Ben kissed Leda on the cheek and they exchanged a smile before he left.
"Hi."
"We need to talk." The smile melted off her face. "Sit."
"What's wrong?" She set her bags down on the floor and sat beside me on the couch. Her baby bump was huge now.
"Well, first of all, where were you?"
"I was shopping with Brandi..." She said hesitantly. I rolled my eyes.
"Really and was Danny there too?" Her eyes went wide and I held up her phone. She snatched it from my hands at the speed of light.
"Snoop much?" She snapped. "And who the fuck do you think it is? Worsnop."
"Why the fuck are you with him!" I shouted so loud Led a jumped.
"Why the fuck does it matter?" I could hear her choking up, immediately making me feel like a twat for shouting at her.
"Because it does?" I sighed. "How could I not be upset? You're sneaking around all the time and you never answer my phone calls. Where the fuck did you even meet him?"
"A bar."
"You were drinking?" I exploded with anger.
"I was- No. Of course I was drinking. I drank a pint with Danny Worsnop and then we went out for a cigarette break before we made plans to run away together. What the fuck, Denis?"
"Stop fucking around."
"Then you shut the fuck up, if you're actually dumb enough to think I would blatantly cheat on you at six months pregnant."
"Yeah okay, your only fucking defense. Calling me dumb. How fucking original, Leda." I sighed. She stormed off out of the room and stopped at the mouth of the hallway.
"And I never answer my phone because I either don't hear it, or don't fucking have it." She wiped the tear that slid down her cheek. "He's just a friend. And if you don't believe me, maybe you are dumb." She stormed off. I sighed and threw myself onto the couch, running my hands through my hair roughly. Oh Fuck. I fucked up. I went to the kitchen and made two cups of coffee before walking into the bedroom. Nothing but Leda's clothes. I smirked slightly and nudged the ensuite door open with my hip. She lay in a bubble bath, the water so deep the only things poking out were her knees, her belly, and from her collar bones up. She looked up at my and frowned before going back to swirling around the pink water.
"Baby." I knelt down and put the mugs on the floor beside the tub.
"They're ignoring you." She pouted. I smiled slightly. I tapped my index finger on her protruding stomach, ever so lightly.
"Not that baby." I then tapped her nose with the same finger, just as light. "That baby." She smirked a little before turning away again.
"That baby is ignoring you too." I sighed and pulled her hand from the water. I took it and kissed it gently, the water catching on my lips.
"I'm sorry, Leda." I whispered and kissed her again. "I messed up."
"Yes. I know." I kissed up her wrist.
"What can I do to fix this?" She finally let herself smile and she looked up at me.
"You can give me the coffee you made me." I handed her the black mug and she took a big sip, sighing deeply.
"I love you, you know that?" I kissed her hand again before she pulled it back and kissed my nose.
"Yeah, I know."
