Peach Holley Worsnop. Born October 1st, at 4pm. The sun was shining bright into the hospital room. And she was glowing. Leda, and Peach. They both were. And both cried a lot. "She's so beautiful." Danny smiled. Danny, Leda, Cameron, and I were there for the birth, and everyone else showed up shortly after. Everyone wanted to see the little miracle. I pleasantly stepped back watched with Cam as everyone took their pictures and selfies and left gifts. Leda was absolutely glowing. "Can I hold her?" I asked. Leda looked up at me, almost hesitantly.
"Of course." She smiled. The nurse gave me a quick debriefing on baby holding, and handed me Peach. She was gorgeous. She was the most precious thing I'd ever seen and she wasn't even mine. I couldn't begin to imagine how Danny felt. And that only made me wish she was mine even more. Peach was a silly name to me, but it seemed to fit her. She was peachy. Just Peachy.
"Okay gimme my niece." Cameron stood up and giggled. She was absolutely beaming. Ever so carefully I handed her the baby girl. I was never so scared of dropping something in my entire life.
"Denis, can I talk to you for a second in the hall?" Danny asked. Leda looked at me.
"Uh- yeah." I followed him out of the room.
"I spoke to Ben about it when he was here before. But we're gonna have to postpone the plans for a little if you want me to help. I got a daughter to take care of. When your guys' next tour starts is the perfect time."
"Sounds good. We can talk business later. But it's gotta get done as soon as possible."
"I understand. I know what it means to you." Danny slapped me on the shoulder and we walked back inside. I really didn't like Danny. At all. And if I didn't have to deal with him I wouldn't. But he was the father of my wife's child, and the rest of the guys and I needed help if we were gonna pull off what we needed to. What we had to do. I felt so stupid for not thinking of it early. For not cutting out the problem in the beginning.
