Forked lightning flashed against the skyline, momentarily illuminating the whole room.
It was raining heavily- I made it rain when the thunder started; lightning storms are always better with rain- and I desperately wanted to go outside in it.
But, I was at work, gazing out of the office window, trying to get inspiration for a character in the comic I was co-writing. Well, technically I was only supposed to be illustrating it, but one of the writers had dropped out and the only guy left had asked me to write with him, so I accepted. Although, I didn't like the comic much. For a start, the storyline was unclear and I hadn't come up with any ideas on how to improve it.
My co writer was called Ray. He was cool- he had an Afro and liked similar music to me- but wasn't the greatest at expressing his ideas in a way others could understand. When he came up with something, the words and ideas would come soaring out of his mouth like bullets from a shotgun, flying around the room left, right, and centre. Although no one really ever knew what he was on about.
He was standing just behind me now, I sensed he was there and span in my chair (yes, we have spinney chairs and it's extremely exciting) to look at him.
"Got any new ideas yet, Gerard?" He asked, glancing over the various drawings I'd left lying around on my desk.
"Not yet." I mumbled, turning back around to also look at my desk, "but you can take any of these as inspiration."
Ray cracked a smile and took one of my very early character designs and scanned over it. "Who's this meant to be?"
"Who do you think it should be?"
He shrugged, "not sure.. It could be anyone except the girl."
"Or the two robot prostitutes."
"They have names!" He exclaimed, "Red and Blue."
I waved my hand dismissively, "yeah, yeah, Red, Blue, whatever."
"Yeah, I was thinking about how to make them more interesting.." He said, putting the drawing down again.
"More interesting? Ray, they're lesbian robot prostitutes from the near future! That's interesting enough."
He laughed, "yeah, but they have, like, no relevance to the story."
I shrugged, "lesbian porn robots."
"If they're irrelevant, we'll have no lesbian robots."
"No!" I said, in mock horror, "we can't not have lesbian robots!"
"Yeah, well, I was thinking we could, like, somehow make one or other of them destroy everything unintentionally and kill the bad guys and then the world is better and... Stuff."
I nodded a bit and shrugged, "whatever you want."
He smiled at me again, "alright. I'll start writing stuff down.. Have you designed them yet?"
"Not yet."
"Then hurry up."
"Okay, okay, you can't rush art."
