The Research Island

Chapter 4

I have now been here for 1 week and 2 days. Rosemarie hadn't spoken a word to me since Marcia and I had gotten together. Today we were going to a small coastal town called Broome. The older kids had somehow begged me into making a trip out to Broome for the day. So Marcia, a group of the older kids, their parents and I were going. My alarm went of and Marcia, who had been sleeping in my arms, woke.

"Your in my bed, again and we should get up, and get dressed so we can meet the others for breakfeast, then leave on time" i say looking at her.

"Then we better get out of bed" she said, sitting up. We got out of bed, got dressed and went to eat breakfast. It was a Saturday so no-one was working. We only work weekdays. When we reached Broome the older kids were excited to see the 'real world'.

"Now listen up" i said " every-one has to meet here at 4:00pm, stay in groups of 4 or more with at least 1 adult" when i finished they all split up into groups and went of in different directions. Marcia and i went of together. At first we were just looking in shops. Then Marcia spotted in something she liked, so we went inside.

"Can i help you?" a shop attendant asked.

"Yes please. The rope necklace with the rainbow coloured shell. My girlfriend would like to try it on" i tell her. She got the necklace out and handed it to Marcia, Marcia tried it on.

"It suits you" i say, Marcia blushed. I looked back at the shop attendant and said

"We'll take it, thank you" Marcia took the necklace off, then handed it back to the shop attendant , who put it in a box, then in a bag before handing it to me. I gave her the money, then we left. We continued walking. When we came to a cafe i asked

"Wanna stop and have lunch?"

"Okay, then can we go to the airport. So i can see the flights during next month. I'm planing on visiting my Grandparents" she explained.

"That's okay, I won't argue 1 week leave anytime next month" i tell her, as we look at the menu.

"What can i get for you?" a waitress asked.

"Lasagna with chips and salad and lemon squash" i say

"I'll have the same" said Marcia. The waitress left and we waited for our meals. When they came. we ate in mostly silence. When we finished i paid and we left. Our walk to the airport was nice it was a lovely day.

"I love you" Marcia said to me.

"I love you too" i replied. When we finished at the airport it was 3:30pm. We walked back to the wharf where we were meeting the others. It was about half hour walk from the airport. Half way back a teenaged girl noticed me

"Aren't you that scientists that's researching that type of algae that can save people's lives?" she asked, i nodded.

"Good luck. Were all praying for you" she said.

"Thank you" i replied. I wrapped an arm around Marcia's waist and we continued walking. When we got to the wharf it looked like everyone was here, but i had to make sure.

"Is everyone here?" i asked. Looking at the other adults.

"Yes" one of them replied. When we arrived back at the island everyone that was left was playing beach cricket. They looked at us and all the kids ran over to join in.

"Come on mum" a little girl said to her mum.

"It's our day off. Why not play beach cricket with the rest of them" i shouted. We sorted out who was in which team then we played. There may have been one-to-many, but we manged. When the game finished we walked back up to camp were we lazed around then ate baked beans for dinner. After we made popcorn and watched movies. Then it got late and we went to bed. I walked Marcia to her cabin, that she shared with some of her friends. I kissed her goodnight then went to my own cabin and went to bed.
