Annabeth POV

"Tyson, are you done making the cupcake?" I asked Tyson as I ran to the kitchen.

"Annabeth! Yup yup," he said as he passed me the blue cupcake.

Tyson pulled out a bent blue candle from his pocket, and placed it on top of the cake, before taking out a match to light the candle.

The cupcake wasn't really the best looking food ever. It looked like a brick with cement on top of it, but I knew it'd mean a lot to Percy deep down. Looks don't matter right? What matters is the sentiments and effort people spent making the gift. Well, that'd be what I would think, but Seaweed Brain would probably not care too... Did you see how messy his hair was in the morning?

I cupped the cupcake with my hands, and ran down towards the dining pavilion. There weren't many people there. I guess most of them were at the campfire for a sing-along, while others went to bed. I watched Percy at the Poseidon table by himself. He was deep in thought, which was pretty hard for a Seaweed Brain... He seemed to be watching the moonlight on Long Island Sound. But I knew he was watching Grover and Juniper at the beach. That was because Grover told me earlier that he'd be heading towards the beach after dinner, bringing Juniper with him.

Looking at them, I kinda wished Percy and I could be like that. I've always had a crush on him since we were twelve, and I guess after showing him how I felt last year with that kiss in the mountain (before he blew it up), Percy was still... My best friend. I decided to slide on the bench next to him, instead of frightening him. I did not want to be at the receiving end of Riptide. Considering how he killed so many monsters today, I definitely didn't want to be monster dust too.

"Hey." I said as I slid next to Percy on the bench. "Happy birthday."

I continued holding the cupcake in my hand.

He stared at me, as though not understanding what I had just said, before saying, "What?"

Gods, he was such a Seaweed Brain. It was his birthday, and he didn't even know it!

"It's August 18th," I told him. "Your birthday, right?"

I hoped I was right. It would be pretty embarrassing to be giving him a birthday cupcake, saying "happy birthday" to him, even though it wasn't his birthday.

He seemed stunned - which I expected... He probably forgot that it was his birthday, and that the prophecy had came true right on schedule.

"Make a wish," I told him, to prevent being silent for too long... It was just awkward.

"Did you bake it yourself?" Percy asked.

I knew it. It didn't look like something a perfectionist would do. I guess he thought I was really a perfectionist.

"Tyson helped," I replied him.

"That explains why it looks like a chocolate brick," Percy said. "With extra blue cement."

At first, I wanted to yell at him for being so mean. I mean, at least he had a cake for his birthday... Unlike me. But as I looked at the cupcake closely, I realised what he said had made perfect sense, and I decided to laugh about it.

He closed his eyes for a second, before blowing out the candle.

He broke it in half, and shared the cupcake with me, eating it with our fingers. I sat next to him and we watched the ocean. It just felt so peaceful being with Percy. Maybe he was making the ocean quiet and calm, just for us. Then again, I couldn't really trust the romantic side of Percy. It would've been silent, except the crickets and monsters were making noise in the woods.
