I looked at myself in the mirror for the fifth time in one minute. I wanted to look perfect. I wanted to prove Harry’s family that I’m a nice and lovely girl, not just one chick you find on the street.
I was wearing my favourite floral summer dress I got with my friends from hometown. It was love at first sight and I remember very well the moment I bought it.
FLASHBACK
It was spring and we were still wearing long sleeve. My friends and I went to the mall after a week full of tests. We were walking around it when suddenly the three of us saw it.
“Guys, are you thinking what I’m thinking?” said Holly.
“I’m thinking that it would look great on Leah, I don’t know what you’re thinking” answered Amy.
“What? Me? I don’t wear those things!” I protested.
“Le, (that was my nickname) your skin is fabulous for that dress, you have to try it on” said Holly. I stared at it and indeed it was beautiful but I wasn’t the kind of person that wore those kind of dresses.
“Ok, I’ll try it on” I finally said. The three of us walked in the shop and took the dress. When I looked in the mirror I knew that I had to get it. It showed perfectly my figure and the tones of the dress matched perfectly the color of my skin, as Holly said.
“Are you ready?” asked Amy from outside the fitting rooms.
“Yeap”
I opened the curtain and when Holly and Amy saw me, they looked at each other, then to me. It was some kind of invisible code we had to know that everyone was agree.
“Just promise me one thing” said Holly. She was expert on fashion.
“Yeah?”
“Promise me you’re going to wear it on a special occasion”
“I promise, but I think there isn’t going to be a special occasion darling” I answered. “I’ve never had a real boyfriend”
“Don’t worry about that, we’ll make sure to find you one this summer”
END OF FLASHBACK
Picture of the dress, without the glasses.
I thought this afternoon was the special occasion I promised to them. I wasn’t going to mess it up as I did when Harry met my sister, so I was kind of nervous about that.
I adjusted my braid once more, putting all the baby hair in the right place. I wasn’t wearing much make up, I didn’t want them to think I was wearing a mask. Natural was my thing so I just put a little bit of cherry lipstick and a line of eyeliner.
I then grabbed my favourite perfume and put two drops of it on my neck and then on my wrists. I had a deep breath and looked at my phone. I got a text from Harry I didn’t notice before.
“I’m on my way love, be ready in 10 minutes! H xx”
I checked the time he sent it and fortunately there was 5 minutes left for me to relax. I decided to go downstairs and wait Harry there, but I just couldn’t sit, I was way too nervous for that.
“Leah, please, calm down sweetie” said my aunt who was working from her desk.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t know you were working” I replied.
“It’s ok. A big day for you, huh?”
“Yeah… I just… I’m trying so hard to be relaxed but I just can’t” she smiled at me and hugged me tightly. I hugged her back and I immediately felt a little bit more calmed. Her hugs were unique. I loved the way she rubbed my back like saying that everything was going to be ok and I loved the way they were so comforting at the same time.
