"Alex we can't go to the police about it yet," I said to him, rubbing his back. I called Peggy for the eighth time since we got to her house ten minutes ago.
"Why?" He asked looking up at me, his eyes were bloodshot and puffy, "We don't know how long they've been gone, if Peggy is okay, if someone took them," he rambled, putting his head in his hands again.
We sat on Peggy's couch, where Alex had collapsed into after searching the house. He sat with his elbows on his knees and his head in his hands, sobbing again. I just sat next to him and rubbed his back.
"It went to voicemail again." I said quietly. I felt my stomach twisting at the thought of our babies being hurt or lost or stolen. Emmy was probably crying. Michael hardly cries, he was probably comforting Emmy. He hates when she cries. "I'm sure they're fine." I whispered, trying to reassure myself more than Alex.
"You really think so?" He asked lifting his head from his hands.
I nodded, I pulled him into me and kissed to top of his head. He sighed and relaxed into my side, putting his head on my shoulder.
"You're probably more worried than me," he said after a few minutes.
"Hmm?" He sat up and looked at me.
"You're with them everyday." He said.
"So are you," It came out more of a question than a statement.
"Yeah but you were with them in the middle of the night when I was out cold in the living room from working on the musical." He whispered. I could see the tears threatening to fall from his eyes. He quickly stood up. "You were always there."
I stood up too, facing Alex. "Its not like you were never there." I said quietly, trying to calm him down.
"Emmy loves you," the tears were falling down his cheeks now.
I pulled him into a hug and rubbed his back, "Emmy loves you, you know that. Michael adores you," I said. "The two of them whine to me every day when you're doing a show. They are always asking for you." I kissed his head again, "Just because Emmy comes to me when shes scared doesn't mean that she doesn't love you." I said.
Alex laughed lightly and sniffled. "You're right," he said quietly, admitting defeat was something he did scarcely.
"I know I am," I said smiling at him. I wiped a tear off of his cheek and kissed him. "Now we have two kids and a Peggy to find." I said taking his hand.
