someone knocked on my window.
i looked up and saw sienna
smiling,
like she always was.
i rolled down the window.
"you're not going to let me in?"
she said, her smile fading.
"wasn't planning on it,"
i replied flatly.
she sighed.
"i guess someone didn't get
a good night's sleep."
i sipped my coffee.
"guess not."
she tried
pulling the door handle a couple times,
but it wouldn't budge.
she leaned against the hood of the car.
"c'mon,
stop being such a downer.
you're making me all sad."
i knew i should have been more excited.
i knew i shouldn't ruin the day for my best friend.
but each time i blinked,
the night flashed before my eyes,
and i felt the tears.
and boy did they
burn.
sienna approached the window again;
i quickly wiped away my tears.
"it's the first day of our senior year,
adelaide.
you can either pout about it,
or you can make the most of it."
i slumped in my seat.
i sat there a while,
contemplating.
"let's go."
we walked through the gates
towards the senior circle,
which wasn't even a circle,
it's just a group of tables where all the seniors sit.
i saw levi,
who had his back turned to me,
sitting with matt and tim,
and basically the whole football team.
of course i saw millie over there too,
because wherever the football team went,
millie went.
partly because she's a cheerleader,
and partly because she's boy obsessed.
and while i saw a crowd of people,
a mix of faces,
a blur of stories,
all i focused on was levi.
he was smiling,
but i saw
no happiness
in his eyes.
