Chapter 14, Road Trip

Natsu's Pov, 

I could tell Lucy didn't like the idea we had to protect her. Her face showed guilt when Gramps spoke about it. We rode the horses until sunset before Levy made us stop in a small clearing in the woods. I got off Storm before helping Lucy down. I smiled at Lucy as she smiled back. "You ok?" I asked able to see by her eyes there was a lot on her mind. Lucy only nodded as Mira walked over taking Storm's lead and brought her to the other horses were Levy was giving them water and food. Gajeel and Laxus started to set up some tents. 

"Lucy and I will get firewood" Informed them. Everyone just nodded as I held Lucy's hand. I saw her cheeks burn up a little as we walked into the woods, looking around for sticks. I mostly just wanted to be alone with Lucy. I noticed she talked to me more when it was just us. "What's on your mind Lucee?" I then asked as I stopped walking, pulling her close to me. I wrapped my arms around her waist fast so she couldn't get away. Her face turned bright red. "W-well... The fact is you guys could get hurt because of me" Lucy then whispered looking at the ground.

I was a little shocked at the answer. "Lucy, as your Dragon it's my job to keep you safe from harm" I reminded her as she only nodded. I had no idea what to say for the others who just wanted to keep Lucy safe. "The others are here because of some destiny thing and because they also care for you" I tried my best to make her feel a little better. I was shocked it worked, I saw a smile grow on Lucy's face. Who knew I really was good at that type of stuff. I kissed Lucy's forehead getting her to look at me with her beautiful chocolate brown eyes. 

I couldn't help but get lost in her eyes. "No matter what happens Lucy, it's our job to protect each other as that's what a family does" I then whispered leaning in to kiss her. "HEY LOVE BIRDS" Mira shouted stopping me as I turned my head to glare at her. She saw my glare and rubbed the back of her neck, sweat-dropping. "Sorry to stop your moment but we need that firewood" Mira let our a fake laugh as I wanted to hit her. "Alright Mira" Lucy nearly shouted as I muttered some curse words under my breath before freeing Lucy from my grip.

We soon got 2 arm falls of sticks and things that could burn in a fire before heading back to the camp area. Once we got there, Levy was brushing Gajeel's hair humming. His eyes were closed and he was smiling at little as Mira was getting ready to cook. Lucy and I started the fire before we sat outside our tent. It was going to be like that for awhile. Nightfall was soon on us as Mira got Laxus to help her cook. I saw Lucy looking up at the stars, smiling. I put my arm around her, pulling her close as I snuggled my face into her neck.

I heard Lucy giggle a little as I looked at her smiling. "What?" I asked as she played with my hair. "Nothing" Lucy answered smiling as we stayed like that until food was done. Mira had cooked some fish that Levy brought for our first night. "We will have to catch the next bunch to eat" Levy reminded us all. We all only nodded as we ate. After eating everyone else went into their tents. I noticed Lucy was staring at the stars once again. I couldn't help but stare at her. We stayed like that for a little while until Lucy let out a small yawn.

"Come on let's head to sleep" I got up and offered my hand. Lucy took it as I helped her stand. We headed into the tent. We laid on top of one blanket and had another on top of us. My mind went to why Jose and Hades would want Lucy and what Jose's said before. With that I couldn't sleep. I was worried that they would take Lucy away from me. I looked at Lucy who snuggled up to me in her sleep. She must of been tired to fall asleep that fast. I smiled at her, putting my arm around her, keeping her close to me.

"No matter the cost, I will keep you safe" I whispered as I stayed up most of the night watching Lucy sleep. I wasn't sure when I fell asleep but I knew it was near sunrise or so....

Next Day, Lucy's Pov, 

I woke up hearing birds singing outside the tent. I then noticed I was snuggled up to Natsu and he had his arm around me. I sat up, my face going bright red. I felt much like an idiot with the reaction. I was soon pulled back to laying down on top of Natsu by his hand. My face was most likely an apple by now. "YO SALAMANDER, TIME TO EAT" Gajeel shouted outside the tent before I heard footsteps walking away. Natsu didn't even flinch. He was in a deep sleep. I started to poke his cheek. "Natsu, foods ready" I whispered as he groaned.

He started to wake up and looked at me. He soon had a toothy grin on his face. "Hey Lucee" he whispered sleepily. I giggled as I was then aloud to sit up. Natsu rubbed his eyes yawning as I stretched. "So about that food?" Natsu then asked sitting up making me laugh. His grin just grew as he pulled me into a kiss. I was shocked at first but I kissed back, my eyes closing as our lips moved in sync. We pulled away when we needed air as I couldn't help but smile. I noticed Natsu smirking, him pulling me close to him. "W-we should really eat before they eat our food" I whispered.

"I would prefer to stay like this" Natsu whispered back as my cheeks were burning like fire. Soon there was a shadow coming through the tent wall. "NATSU GET YOUR LAZY BUTT UP BEFORE WE COME IN THERE" Mira shouted as Natsu sighed, rolling his eyes. I soon got out the tent, my face most likely bright red as Levy was smirking at me. She walked over crossing her arms. "What did he try and do?" Levy asked as Mira walked over. "You look like an apple" Mira laughed a little as I crossed my arms a little upset. So unfair. 2 vs 1.

"Here" Mira then passed me an apple. I glared at her a little as she just giggled walking off. Natsu got out the tent and started helping the other boys to put away the tents. "I found a path what should get is to Oak Town sooner" Levy then dragged me over to a map on the ground. I bit into the apple as she showed me where we was and where we had to go. "Let's hope we find the others soon" Levy then mumbled as I remembered her conversion with Erza in the temple. They was friends with the missing Dragon Masters. 

I hoped that they was ok....
