When I first realized things were fishy, it was during gym. I had run the pacer- a test where you had to go from end to end in a gym-and was almost the last one out. Chris soluted to me while I walked out. The weird thing was, I wasn't hot at all. Just overworked. My skin was freezing cold. I actually splashed water on my arm and it froze, creating a small overlay of ice.
After gym Chris and I talked. "I was freezing!" I put my hands up and pointed to the layer of ice. "How did you...?" Chris stopped walking. He stared at the spot of ice. He gingerly touched it. A crackle sounded by his finger. A small fracture had appeared. "Chris!" I was yelling at him now, "I was going to show Emily!" He shrunk downwards, his eyes trained on the ice. "Look." He whispered, pointing at the fracture. I glanced at it, seeing a small green plant uncurlimg from it. I looked at Chris' small, caring face. He looked pleased. As if it were his baby.
