Chapter Ten: Just My Luck
Mr. Aodh just finished giving everyone their partners. So right now he was just explaining what this project is.
"Okay class. This project is about helping each other become a stronger warlock." then quickly adds, ".. or witch." He looked at the entire class. "You will have to work with your partner sometimes after school or on the weekends if you plan on finishing it on time."
There was an eruption of groans with only one 'Yes!' out of the entire class. I turned around to see Darian fist-pumping the air. I rolled my eyes.
"Basically this is just tiny little projects that get harder and more complicated after you complete each one. I'm letting you guys have basically every period to work on these little tasks with your partner." He turned around and began to write something on the board. "There are about 20 tasks in this project. The deadline will be in a month."
So right now it was the 6th of December. Mr. Aodh wrote on the board that the project was due on January 7th. I wonder what these projects are going to be like? He said they get harder the more you accomplish. So what would the last one be like? I shuddered at the thought.
"Every time you finish the assignment and didn't cheat, then the magical score tracker will cross out the assignment." He smirked at the boys in the front row who groaned. "Any questions?"
"What about break? It starts in a couple of weeks." A guy in the back asked.
"Exactly. That will persuade you to work harder and be done with the project faster, doesn't it?" Mr. Aodh smiled. Man he's a hard ass isn't he?
"Paris, what's the break for?" I whispered to him. I'm pretty sure that the people here don't celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or any other type of human religion holidays.
"It's for Elite Holiday." He replied.
"What's that?" I asked quietly.
"You know how Christmas is a huge holiday to humans? Well it's just like that." He whispered. "We buy each other presents and practice traditions. We'll teach you over break."
"That sounds fun!" I beamed. "How long is it?"
"Only a week, but before that we have a dance." He shrugged. "It's okay."
"Hm. I've never been to a dance." I responded.
"You've never been to a dance?" He asked looking shocked.
"Yeah. Never had enough money to buy a dress." I shrugged myself. "Plus no one ever asked me."
"Danai and Paris, am I interrupting something?" Mr. Aodh asked glazing at me.
"Sorry, sir, he was just telling me about the break. Like what it's for since I didn't really know." I knew that if I said I was talking about the dance than that would be a problem. Plus I don't really want to announce to the class that I've never been asked to a dance. That's just embarrassing.
"I will let it slide this time." He went on to explaining about hexes and stuff finally looking away from me.

Darian's POV
Right now Mr. Aodh was talking about Hexes. All the different types of hexes and the spell to erase hexes. I was kind of interested since hexes can do a number of things.
"Hexes can be made to have someone fall in love with you, be controlled, switch souls and so much more" Mr. Aodh said. "Hexes are extremely powerful and for the most part won't work."
"Why won't they work?" A kid asked.
"Well sometimes a warlock could be immune to a hex. Other times hexes are so powerful they cancel themselves out. A lot of the time the hex won't work which is a good thing. Too many people could get hurt because of a hex." Mr. Aodh warned.
To get someone to fall in love with you? Interesting.

I was walking out from Mr. Aodh's room when suddenly an arm wrapped around my shoulders. I looked up to see a smirking Darian. That smirk is hot but incredibly frustrating at the same time.
"How about my kiss, Danai?" He bent down so his face was right next to mine.
"Never going to happen." I smiled innocently.
"I doubt that." He whispered huskily right in my ear.
"Never going to happen." I repeated, glaring straight into his golden eyes.
"Is that a bet?" He challenged. "Because I would totally win."
"You would not!" I stated with confidence. Is this guy for real? Shaking my head slightly annoyed.
"So I take that as a bet. If I get you to kiss me by the end of this week..." A huge smile broke out on his face. "I get to take you to the dance!"
I thought it over. "Fine. If I wi-"
"Which won't happen." He cut in. I glared.
"If I win you have to do whatever I say for a week." I smiled.
"Deal." He declared.
"Deal." I promised. He will so not win this bet.
"Okay well I got to go to class." He said with a sad look. "I'll see you later, partner." And with that he kissed my cheek and left. I felt a slight buzz flow through me.
My cheek now felt warm and fuzzy. When he kissed me the pleasure I felt when he just touched me, multiplied by a thousand. My cheeks felt warm.
You can't let him win you thought to yourself.
