I really needed to get some friends of my own.
As much as I loved laughing and chatting with Aria’s friends, it just wasn’t the same. In factit was a little awkward. They knew each other so welland I started to feel like I had no idea what they were talking about when they joked around. But our time spent at the mall was fun. I mean, when isn’t the mall fun?
I did go off by myself at one point. I was the only one interested in going into the book store and told the girls I would meet them at the food court later. I wanted to see if I could find more information about air elementals. Although, Arista’s reading assignments and quizzes were informative, the details about each elemental were pretty basic. I wanted something more in-depth.
I was looking through the aisle and reading the signs above the bookshelves, trying to find the right place to look when I spotted a girl sitting on the ground with a book sprawled out in front of her and waving her hands around. I slowly walked toward her with a strange look. The movement of her hands looked familiarand it wasn’t until I could smell her peachy perfume that I realized that it was one of the movements that I just mastered not too long ago. I cocked my eyebrow and peaked over her shoulder to see that the book that she was reading was an instruction book with for air elementals.
“You’re doing it wrong,” I finally said. My voice was just above a whisper, but her entire body jumped making her long black hair fall from the hair clip. She looked up at me, her blue eyes wide. “Why are you trying to master this move anyway? Are you an air elemental too?” I asked casually as I sat down beside her.
She didn’t speak at first. Insteadshe looked away and bit her lip. “No, I’m not.” I continued to wait for more information and sat quietly. “It’s going to sound stupid,” she finally mumbled after a moment of silence.
I shrugged. “Try me.”
She sighedand suddenly she looked at me with an excited expression on her face. Her eyes widened, a large smile appeared and her posture straightened. “Okay,” she began, her voice matching her body language, “I was reading the other day about this elemental having all 4 abilitiesand I thought, how cool would it be to see if that was really true! So I came here and thought I’d – ” When she paused she narrowed her eyes and looked me up and down. “What did you say earlier?” she asked suddenly.
“I told you that you weren’t doing it right,” I replied simply. “And I asked if you were an air elemental too, but obviously you’re not since you’re trying that motion out.” I raised my hands ready to show her the correct movement. “But here, it’s a pretty easy movement. Let me –” I stopped what I was saying when I saw her wide eyed expression. Was she really going to look at me like that?
For a moment I just starred at herand she eventually relaxed. “Sorry,” she began a little shyly. “I guess we’re all getting used to actually seeing you out in public now,” she explained with a little laugh. “I guess it just shocked me. I’m normally not like this I promise.”
I had never really thought it was a big deal to me. To me, I was still a normal person... but not. To them, I was like the north star to someone lost in the woods. I was the one of the only two air elementals in their kingdom. That’s kind of a big thing to them.
So I shrugged and asked, “Did you still want to try it? I think it would be kind of cool to see if it worked.” I was kind of curious to see if it would work or not. It never hurt to try at least.
She smile. “Sure, but only if you try it too.”
“Great.” From there I gave her specific instructions and showed her the movement with my hands. The ease of the way my hands and arms flowed was still a bit of a rush to me. I could still feel the energy run through my veins and exit through my fingertips and palms. Soon enough a ball of hair was twirling within my hands. It was basicand something every elemental could do with their element, but the hand gestures were completely different for each person.
Soon enough the raven haired girl next to me was copying every gesture exactly the way I did it. And as expected, nothing happened.
“It takes a bit of practice to get it right,” I said as a bit of reassurance. She just shrugged and returned the book to the shelve.
“I kind of figured it wouldn’t work, but it was worth a try,” she replied with a smile. Her attitude hadn’t really changed at all. “I’m Lexi, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you,” I replied with a smile.
“Alright now you’re turn,” she gestured. She then began to show me the movements to form the ball water. I watched carefully and then repeated exactly. Although nothing happened, I still felt a bit of a rush running through my veins. It reminded me of the feeling that I had gotten when I was first starting to train with Blithe. I didn’t tell Lexi about it, but instead, shrugged it off just the same as she did.
“Well it didn’t hurt to try,” she began. “Thanks for being so open minded. I’m pretty sure that anyone else would have just laughed at me.” I noticed that she didn’t look at me and tried to hide behind her hair as she said this.
I couldn’t help but giggle at the thought, which brought her attention completely on me. I just smiled and explained, “I’m not really a normal person around here. Before I came here, I had no idea that this world even existed. At this point, I can’t write anything off.”
A buzzing sound started going offand I at first thought that there was a bee somewhere nearby, but it was Lexi’s phone. “Oh that’s probably my mom.” She quickly answered and had a short conversation with her mom, which consisted of where she was and that she was on her way. When she got off she gave small frown before saying, “My mom wants me to meet her at the food court.” She started to stand back upand I followed suite, but before we said our goodbyes and parted, I made sure to get her last name. My garden party needed people that I wanted to hang out withand I wanted to make sure Lexi was on the list to invites.
Once she left, I continued on my search for the right book, which consisted of the book Lexi was looking at when I found her. I ended up purchasing a few books to help me get a better understanding and met Aria and her friends back at the food court. The rest of the time at the mall was spent just like the previous time. We ate then began walking though the mall once again.
When we arrived home, I was summoned by Blithe to the training room. Not really sure why I would need to go in there, I did so with the most confused look on my face. When I opened the doors, I found Blithe and Damien in mid-conversation.
Blithe looked at me. “Great your back! Can you shut the door?” I nodded and did so. “Damien and I have a plan after your season is over.”
I raised my eyebrow and walked over to them to join them where they stood. “Do share,” I said once I was standing next to Damien.
“You might not like this though,” Damien warned with a wary smile. I raised my eyebrow again as he continued, “So you have to promise not to get upset or anything.”
My heart raced as I began to worry and I glanced over at Blithe, who said, “I’d leave you to alone for this, but I have to chaperone, but I’ll give you a bit of privacy and be over there.” He pointed behind them by throwing his thumb over his shoulder.
I nodded at him still a little weary about what in the world was going on as he turned around and began walking. Once he was in earshot, I turned toward Damien who wrapped one of his arms around my waist and the other caressing my cheek before leaning his forehead on mine. I could feel his fast heart beat as my hands rested on his chest.
“I love you,” he whispered, “and I can understand if this plan might be a huge step for you, but despite doing this to end the war, I really meant it when I said that I’d be happiest man in the world if I could spend the rest of my life with you.” He paused and I recalled the time he stated it. He had only said it once before a few weeks before I teleported here, but I remember it vividly. “I never thought I’d have the chance, but I do nowand I don’t want to give it up because our Kingdom’s have been feuding.” He pulled his forehead away and locked his gaze on mine. “Which is why, I’d like to marry you.” My sharp intake of breath gave away my surpriseand he continued, “Blithe believes a proposed marriage would make your father agree to the treaty and by ending it with a marriage, I’d give my crown to my younger brother and be with you. I’d have to practically demand this from your father once your season is over, but we’ll be together and the war would be at an end.” He smiled brightly, adding, “And of course I’d propose properly, but I want to run this by you before any decisions were made.”
