By the end of the night, I was exhausted and I couldn’t wait to lie down in that comfortable looking bed with beautiful satin sheets. After dinner, I had to force myself to go to the library to read the three chapters Arista had assigned me. If I hadn’t, I was sure I would’ve given into temptation.

As tired as I was though, I ended up finding the text book very fascinating. It was much more interesting than learning about World War I in American History class. The text book began explaining how the kingdoms were first formed and who ruled them. It reminded me a lot of the medieval times, but more civilized and with different creatures such as mermaids, demons, fairies and vampires. I learned more about the elementals and how they came to be, the abilities and traits each elemental processed and how their monarchy came to be.

I looked over the chart which explained the traits of the four elements and scanned them over before going to bed. Earth elementals were born to have nurturing and calming qualities. Most earth elementals have careers as nurses or negotiators. Air elementals were full of wisdom and they were seen as the people whose instincts were never wrong. These elementals have been known to be never wrong, which is why they made great council members for the king. Fire elementals were born with a temper, but are also loyal and true. They are meant to destroy, as also cleanse, which is why most fire elementals turn toward the royal guard for employment. Water elementals are born with healing powers. They are also very passionate and can be emotional. They find employment as doctors or veterinarians throughout the kingdom.

The next morning I quickly changed and ate breakfast before meeting Blithe in the gym. Arista was there this time and after Blithe had instructed me to do some exercises such as kicking and punching, Arista didn’t hesitate in going over what I had read the night before.

“Did you read the chapters, your majesty?” she asked as I kicked the air, pretending I was a karate kid. I could see Blithe’s critical gaze as I kicked and punched, but tried to ignore it. He did tell me we would go over proper defense techniques later as I mastered my element. So I did see a reason to be judged.

“Yea – Yes Miss Arista,” I replied correcting myself, knowing very well that if I didn’t practice what these people were trying to teach me, then I would never get it. “I found them very interesting and informative.”

I caught site of her nodding her head as she flipped to a certain page. “Please tell me who created the immortals?”

I rolled my eyes. There was always a belief in a god or goddess in every aspect of our lives. Even the people who don’t have to believe, do it. “The sister moon goddesses and the brother sun gods,” I replied punching the air. I remembered that answer because when I looked out my balcony at night, the sky was purple and high in the sky were two bright blue moons and when we went into the city the day before I noticed there was two suns.

“Excellent,” she praised. She was about to answer another question, but I rudely interrupted as a large gust of wind flew out of my hand like a cannon ball and hit the wall, leaving two small cracks in the wood.

“Holy shit!” I exclaimed, not expecting something to happen, but at the same time I was glad. My arms and legs were getting tired.

“I beg your pardon?” Arista asked stunned.

I ignored her and turned to Blithe and asked astounded, “Did you see that?”

“Yes, I did,” he replied partly astonished and partly filled with joy. “Congratulations, Princess Ellia. You’re an air elemental.”

Arista’s jaw had dropped, but she covered it quickly with her free hand. “That’s impossible. There hasn’t been one in at least two generations!” she exclaimed.
