*~*~*~*
It was nice to have someone other than Aria in the loop of things. And I was actually really surprised that Blithe understood as well as he did. However, he had one condition. He wanted to meet Damien and "talk to him."
Which was why I was standing on the island after texting Damien to meet me there. It was late, but the two moons lit up the sky, giving it a fairy tale effect. It seemed so surreal to be standing next to Blithe as we waited for Damien to arrive. Of course, that feeling only increased as we watched him appear in a dark – almost black – cloud. The large ball of mist eventually morphed into some kind of mist before disappearing and revealing the tall man in tailored slacks a collared button down.
My breathe stopped and I took a timid step back when the cloud appeared, but relaxed as Damien's tall figure turned to look at us. He noticed Blithe first and looked at me skeptically, but there wasn't room for me to explain as the older man stepped up to him and introduced himself.
"Good evening, King Damien," Blithe greeted, extending his hand. "I'm Blithe." Damien glanced back at me before hesitantly shaking the man's hand.
"Damien," he replied simply.
From my side view, I could see a smile on Blithe's face as he brought his hand back to his side. "Relax, your majesty," Blithe assured, the smile still prominent in his features. "Elle's told me about you and your previous history together."
"She did?" the younger asked, looking over at me. "Elle?"
I sighed. "Damien, he can help."
"Do you trust him?" Damien asked, skeptically glancing over at Blithe, who just stood there patiently.
"As much as I trust Aria." My answer seemed to satisfy him and he physically relaxed.
"So how can you help?" Damien asked as he turned to Blithe.
"Well fortunately I don't have to do much since the three of you have already figured most of it out," he answered with a proud smile my way. "What I am concerned about is your plan after her debut. Do you, Damien, plan to court Ellia afterword?"
"I'd like to, yes," he answered. "But I was also planning to meet with the King about a treaty. We have a meeting date already set."
Blithe 'tsk'ed. "He won't see you. Ever."
"What? Why not?" I asked irritated.
Blithe looked at me with sad eyes. "Because as much as he wants this feud to end, he can't bring himself to trust a demon. They killed your mother, Ellia. You must understand how he feels about them," he explained.
"So what should we do after her debut?" Damien asked frustrated.
"At the party, simply try to get in his majesty's good graces. He's been set on looking for a suitor for Ellia sense she came back. If he likes you, he will encourage you to stay and court her."
"That's it?" I inquired surprised that not only did it seem that easy, but my father was trying to marry me off so soon.
"Well we'd keep it quiet that you're a demon, of course," Blithe answered looking over at Damien. "But that's it. Until we can convince the king to arrange a meeting with him, which is an entirely different subject, we'll need to address it later."
I looked at the ground in thought and when I looked back up. Blithe was looking at me and bid his farewell with the excuse that we would want some alone time.
"Don't be gone for too long. We have an intense training session tomorrow and you'll need your energy." With those last words, orange flames swirled around him and within a second he was gone.
The moment I looked over at Damien, he rushed over to me and pressed his lips to mine. It was short, but sweet and when he pulled away, I was sure he saw the worry in my eyes.
"Don't worry, we'll work through this. I'll make sure of it." His words made me smile and I was confident that it would turn out for the better especially with Blithe on our side. He was sure to be a lot of help.
I stayed in his arms for a few minutes, enjoying the feeling of being in his embrace. He pulled away and kissed my forehead, before insisting that I go back to rest. I sadly had to agree with him and I let it known that I wasn't exactly happy with the idea with a sigh.
"We'll see each other tomorrow," he promised right before we said our goodnights.
He kept his promise and we had met at the island even several days later. It had become a daily thing, no matter how busy we had become. We always came back to the island around the same time every single night. He'd always ask me questions about how I was adjusting and how the preparations for my debut were going and when I was finished, he'd ask me about my training and a bunch of other set of questions.
"You know what I noticed?" I began as we laid on a blanket looking up at the moons, "I'm always telling you what's been going on, but you barely say a word about yourself." I turned on my side and rested my head on my elbow. "Why is that?"
Damien shrugged as best as he could while lying down. "I guess I'm more concerned about you," he answered turning his head to the side. "You've only been here for a little while and I want to make sure that you're adjusting alright."
I mentally awed at his selflessness. He had always put me before himself. "I'm adjusting quite well," I reassured him as I brought my arm up to move the stray dark hair from out of his eyes. He caught my hand and placed a small kiss on my knuckles before releasing it.
"I can see that," he replied with a smile. "Besides I like listening to you talk about it."
"Really?" I asked with a giggle, amused as I lied back down with my head still facing him.
He nodded. "Yeah. I don't know why, but I think it's because I never really thought that I'd be able share this with you. I've always wanted to, but with the restrictions, I wasn't able to, but now," he paused, exhaling at the last word. "Now it's like a dream and I'm still wrapping my mind around the fact that you're here... in this world." He sat up a little and leaned over me, gently kissing me. "Sometimes I have to prove to myself that you're really here because I feel like I'm going to wake up from this dream and you won't be here," he whispered still hovering over me. He gently grazed my cheek with his thumb. "That's why I like listening to you. It makes this seem real."
His confession brought a smile to my lips and a single tear. "I know," I replied in the same soft tone. "I feel the exact same way and if this is a dream, I never want to wake up."
