Chapter One

~Flashback~

*Dante*

I nervously walked by the side of Aphmau's horse. We were approaching the village.

When we came to the gate I looked around. No one was there.

Maybe she just didn't know we were coming back today. Maybe she's doing important guard stuff....

I looked up, Hunter opened the gates for us. He climbed down and greeted us.

"Lady Aphmau, I have some.. tragic news... Laurence I'm very sorry-" Laurence cut him off
"Hold on. Before you tell me I want to know, is my sister okay?" He asked worriedly and Hunter looked at the ground making my heart sink
"Laurence, Kyler- Kyler was murderer..." His voice cracked and I fell to my knees.

Laurence stayed silent. I couldn't imagine the pain he felt right now. His only family member left was gone.

"N-no. This can't be. This is all a nightmare," he cried
"I'm afraid it's not, we were waiting to have her funeral until you came back," Hunter sighed
"Where is her body?" I asked
"Top floor of the guards tower, exactly how we found it on the beach.." He said.

I weakly stood up and ran. I ran as fast as I possibly could to that tower.

I burst open the door and climbed up. As I lifted myself up onto the top floor a few tears left my eyes.

I walked over to the limp and pale body on the bed. A sword was stabbed into her chest.

I grabbed her pale hand and held it. It was cold.

"Kyler please come back..." My voice cracked
"I-I thought she was immortal," Garroth said sadly
"Remember, she banished Zenix with her immortality, she gave it up." Katelyn said joining us
"Kyler no," Laurence came in and fell next to the side of the bed.

He leaned on her shoulder and let his tears pour out. I let go of her and backed away.

"Cadenza is telling Aphmau what happened now, you can go too if you want," Hunter said to me and I nodded before exiting the tower.

"So she was murdered by Hila? Why did they want her dead?!" I asked angrily
"I-I don't know! They also stole some gold before they left but by the time I found Kyler they were long gone. I'm so sorry," She said sadly
"How could you let this happen?!" I shouted
"Dante! I loved Kyler just as much as you did! She was my best friend! Don't you think I would've stopped it if I could!" She shouted back, tears falling down her cheeks
"Right, I'm sorry. I'm just- I don't know," I said rubbing my face with my hands
"I know, you loved her. It's okay to grieve. Here, I had an extra key to her house. Go take what you want to remember her by," she said handing me a key
"Thanks, and- I'm sorry too," I sighed before leaving.

I slowly opened her door. It was quiet inside her house. Too quiet.

I set the keys on her counter and searched for the note. It wasn't here.

Maybe she saw it before she died. The bracelet was gone too.

I went downstairs and into her bedroom. I looked around. A few things were missing.

I pushed the thought away and looked inside her closet for her scarf. It wasn't there.

Maybe she had thrown it away awhile ago. I wouldn't blame her, she looked way better without it.

I sat on her bed and sighed. A few tears fell down my face.

Things wouldn't ever be the same.

Please tell me this is all a dream.

[Present day]

Its been a year and half since Kyler died. After about three months after she had passed things finally started getting back to normal.

Well, I say normal but that's not really how it is. Things just didn't seem so bad anymore.

There was no more time for grieving. Laurence finally stopped drinking his pain away.

Garroth moved on (thank Irene). Him and Aphmau now have a little boy together.

I on the other hand still haven't forgot her. I still imagine how life would be like if she was still here.

I have dreams about her meeting me at the gate and saying yes. Us having a future together.

I never drank my pain away, I fought. I fought and fought and fought. Fighting took my mind off of things.

It as my escape. I never had to worry about crying at Kyler's grave.

Besides fighting I would also just try and think about why this all happened. Many things didn't add up.

For example, many of Kyler's things went missing after she died, and Hila never admitted to coming and attacking.

But I'd always give up because we have all the proof we need. Her dead body.

I sat in the guards tower reading a book. I had read all these books over a million times.

It was Kyler's favorite thing to do in her free time. I wanted to at least feel like some piece of her was with me.

"Dante," Laurence said climbing up the ladder
"Hm?" I asked looking up from the book
"Can we talk?" He asked
"Sure," I nodded
"You know how you'd always look for clues and stuff about Kyler's death," he said
"Yes, it was foolish of me, I just didn't want to face the fact that she was gone." I frowned
"Well I want your help. I honestly don't feel like Kyler is gone. Nothing really adds up," he said
"Laurence we both saw her body. We buried her together. She's gone," I sighed
"No, I don't believe she is," he shook his head
"Why do you think she's not gone? Why now?" I asked
"Because this," he said holding out his hand.

His bracelet was glowing red.

"If she was dead, why would it be glowing? When she died why didn't it give me a sign?" He asked
"I-I don't know." I said
"Can we at least go see her grave and see if her necklace is glowing too?" He asked
"We'd have to dig her up," I said
"I know," he nodded and I sighed
"Fine," I rubbed my face with my hands.
