Chapter Twenty

*Kyler*

"Kyler- please just listen to me! I don't think you're a monster!" Garroth yelled running after me.

"Will you just quit it?!" I screamed turning around.

His eyes widened and he shut up. I knew I was turning again.

"I'm done with all of this. I resign as a guard. I resign as a citizen of Phoenix Drop," I snapped at him.

"Kyler you're being unreasonable!" He shouted back.

"Good!" I yelled back before stomping into Dante's house and slamming the door in Garroths face.

Dante jumped at my violence. He walked over and wrapped his arms around me.

"Dante," I whispered.

"Hm?" He hummed while playing with my hair.

"I wanna leave," I said.

"What do you mean?" He asked worriedly.

"I want to explore. I don't want to live here anymore. I want to experience more things," I said excitedly.

"You just want to go? What about your friends and family?" He asked .

"Whoever wants to come can! I just don't want to be anchored down in one place ya'know? I don't want to be easily found. In a sense, I want to be hidden," I smirked.

"Well then I'm coming with you." He nodded.

"When do we leave?" I asked.

"That's up to you," he smiled.

"We leave first thing next week," I nodded .

"Aye'ay Captain," he chuckled.

"You're just leaving? With no destination?" Laurence asked.

"Exactly," I nodded.

"You're insane," he shook his head.

"Thank you," the corners of my mouth turned up.

"No, it's not a good thing," he sighed.

"Um says who?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows.

"You can't just leave! You can't just walk out of everything! You can't be a coward!" He said placing his hand on my shoulder.

"I'm not being a coward Laurence. I'm being me! I'm not used to love, I'm not used to being a friend! Let alone a girlfriend and a sister! I'm leaving to go explore! To find a place that I can't actually love, to be me, to be free." I said slapping his arm away.

"Fine, do whatever you want," he said turning away from me.

I clenched my fists to keep myself from crying. I felt my eyes water but I wouldn't let myself cry.

I turned on my heel and walked away. I was not dealing with this.

As I was walking towards Dante's house, Rex ran up to me and leaned down to lick my face.

"Hey buddy, you're gonna come with me right?" I smiled a bit as he licked my face again.

I walked into the house. Rex squeezed through the door while knocking a few things over.

Laughing, I picked them back up as he laid down in the middle of the floor.

"Kyler, you here?" Dante called from downstairs.

"Yea," I called back before he jogged up the stairs.

"What did Laurence think?" He asked.

"He doesn't approve," I sighed.

He walked up I me and pushed the hair out of my face. He smiled at me.

"Hey, don't worry about it! You're doing what makes you happy!" He said.

"Yea, I guess you're right," I smiled.

"I am," he winked.

"Are you sure you want to come with me though? I don't want to take you away from your friends," I asked concerned.

"I'm positive, wherever I'm with you, in happy," he said.

"You've been so mushy the past few days," I began laughing.

"Do you not like it?" He chuckled.

"No, no, it's fine, its just you're usually energetic and playful, that's all," I giggled.

"I guess when I was around Nicole she liked it when I was serious about things," he said.

"But that's not you," I laughed remembering the first time we met.

"I know," he nodded.

"Well, you're with me now. So you can be you," I smiled.

"I guess I just didn't realize it," he smiled.

"So you're sure you want to come?" He asked.

"I'm positive," he winked.
