Chapter Eighteen

*Garroth*

"Where have you guys been?! Where's Kyler?!" Aphmau asked worriedly as she ran up to me and Zane
"We were at Garte's," I sighed as I hugged her
"W-what?" She asked as her eyes widened
"Kyler and Zane went to kill him, I followed them, I got captured. Kyler was going to kill Garte and I couldn't let her- he wants her to give into the darkness," I sighed
"So what happened?" She asked
"I pushed her out of the way and then she left, we don't know where she went," I said
"Can you get Dante for me? I want to talk to him," Zane said waiting on the outside of the gate
"Yes of course," Aphmau nodded as we walked into the village.

*Dante*

I walked up to the gate. Zane stood next to Wyvern. His eyes met mine and he smiled a bit.

"You needed me?" I asked
"Uh yea. Kyler's gone." He closed his eyes
"What do you mean gone?!" Worry rushed through my body
"I don't know! We went to kill Garte, and then Garroth wouldn't let her so she left. He said that Garte wanted her to give into her darkness and she felt offended and left." He said
"You know where Garte is?!" My eyes widened
"Yes," he nodded
"Take me there. Now." I said
"Dante I have to warn you, he messes with people's minds. He tricked Kyler into thinking he was you. When we first got there she thought he was you, she let her guard down- and kissed him," he made a disgusted look
"Take me to him," I pleaded
"Alright," he nodded getting on his Wyvern.

I got on the back of it and he the wyvern began flying.

"It's through here," he walked through a small opening in the side of a mountain.

I followed him in. There were no guards anywhere. There was talking from down one of the hallways.

I walked in front of Zane and towards the noise. I placed my hands on my katana.

Before I walked into the room Zane grabbed my arm. I turned to him.

"Remember he messes with minds," he whispered and I nodded before walking into the room.

I looked at the two people talking. Hunter and Garte.

"What's going on?! Where's Kyler?!" I shouted at the two and they locked eyes with me
"D-Dante?" Her voice was quiet and shaky.

My head snapped toward her, she was in the corner, her knees were pulled up to her chest.

"Kyler!" I ran over to her and crouched down
"I was expecting more of you to come," Garte chuckled
"What's going on here?" I asked grabbing Kyler's hands and helping her up
"Kyler come here babe," Hunter outstretched his hand for her to take.

With hesitating she walked over to him and nuzzled into his chest. Anger boiled inside me.

"What's going on?!" I shouted again
"Can't you see we were just having a nice conversation," Garte said
"Where is Kyler?" I asked
"Dante I'm right here," she said confused while holding Hunter's hand
"You're not Kyler." I shook my head
"You're smarter than she is," Garte nodded his head and then Hunter and Kyler disappeared
"Where is she?" I growled
"Kyler? I'm not sure, she left a while ago," he smiled
"You know, maybe Garroth wouldn't let Kyler kill you, but no ones here to stop me," I said placing my hands on my Katanas.

In an instant in front of me stood Kyler instead of Garte.

"You wouldn't kill me," she said terrified while stepping back
"You aren't Kyler." I said raising one sword up
"You're right, I'm more powerful than her," his deep voice said through her mouth as a flash of light came from her hands and I was against the wall in pain.

"Dante!" Zane rushed into the room
"Oh hello again son," Garte chuckled switching back to his form
"I'm not your son," he spat
"Zane- we need to find her," I coughed as he helped me up
"You didn't think it'd be that easy now did you," Garte chuckled as he struck both of us in the stomach
"Oof-" I hit the wall again.

I tried standing up but I didn't have the strength. Zane was out cold.

"Get away from them!" a voice boomed as Garte walked towards us.

Kyler was in whatever form she turned into. Her eyes were jet black. Her clothes looked tattered and old.

"Kyler?" I questioned, I thought she left
"Well look who's back, ha! Couldnt get enough of me now could you," Garte smirked
"Dante can you stand?" She asked me and I tried but pain shot through my leg and stomach
"N-no," I shook my head
"What are you doing? Don't you hate him, he hurt you," Garte said confused
"I don't hate him, I never will," she said
"Maybe for now," he flicked his wrist and Nicole appeared next to him
"Choose," he looked at me
"W-what?" I asked.

I knew what he wanted me to do. Kyler stopped and waited for me to answer.

"Choose who you survives," he smiled
"Dante what's going on?!" Nicole asked with a terrified look
"Dante it's really Nicole," Kyler said
"Of course it is, why would I fake a decision so crucial to your lives," Garte smiled
"Wait- what did you mean choose who survives?" I asked
"Pick Kyler and I'll let you both go but I'll have to kill her, pick Nicole and I'll let you both go, but I'll kill Kyler," he said
"You can't kill me," Kyler growled
"Watch me," he flicked his wrist again and she was thrown to a wall
"Kyler!" I shouted
"I-I'm okay. Pick her- I can handle myself," she coughed getting up
"Tic toc, tic toc," Garte smiled
"Dante pick her," Kyler said standing up and nodding
"How about we make this a little easier," Garte laughed before we were all floating above a pit of lava
"What the-?!?" I yelled
"Don't worry, it can't hurt you Dante. But if I stop holding up one of these girls they will fall to their deaths," he said as a platform appeared under my feet
"I can't move!" Nicole shrieked squirming around in the air
"Dante pick her!" Kyler shouted, tears beginning to fall down her cheeks
"I can't!" I yelled pulling on my own hair
"Pick her!" She shrieked again
"Fine! Nicole! I pick Nicole!" I fell onto my knees
"As you wish," Garte said.

I watched as Nicole appeared in front of me. She wrapped her arms around me.

Garte laughed as he released his grip on Kyler. She plummeted into the lava.

"NO! KYLER!" I wanted to reach for her but I couldn't.

I laid there above the lava as tears spilt out of my eyes.

"K-Kyler," I whispered.
