Chapter Three

*Dante*

I stepped forward again, getting closer to her. I lifted my arms up to push away the cloak but hers grabbed my wrist.

"Dante. No," she said quietly and I lowered my arms
"Kyler, I need to see you. You don't know how badly I've missed you. My entire world ended the day I came back to find you dead," I said hurt
"I'm not the girl you fell in love with. I'm not the girl you used to know. Please go back to Phoenix drop and forget about me," her voice cracked
"How can I forget about you if you're the only thing that's been on my mind for the past year and a half," I said
"I'm sorry. I needed to leave. Please go," she said
"Can i at least see you," I said
"No, you can't. I- I'm sorry." She said pushing me away and turning around
"Kyler, I didn't come all the way from Phoenix drop just to get turned down. So many people miss you, especially your brother," I said
"Laurence, how's he doing?" She asked quietly
"For three months straight he drank his pain away after you died. He was a mess. But he sent me out here to find you because he didn't believe you actually died. Why did you stage your death?" I asked
"Because I couldn't be there anymore. I only came to destroy someone who made my life miserable. I didn't plan on staying and having an entire life there. I got too attached. That's not who I am," she said
"But that is who you are. If it wasn't you it wouldn't have happened. Please come back. They need you." I paused and sighed.

"I need you," I my voice cracked a bit.

She turned back around to face me. She looked up.

Her scarf was covering everything from her nose down. Only her dull blue eyes were seen.

There was no sparkle in them. There was no happiness in them.

"Please, Dante, just go" she sighed
"I promised your brother id bring you back." I said
"Well tell him I don't want to go" she closed her eyes
"Why not?" I asked
"Bec- because I can't!" Her eyes opened but this time they were watery.

I walked up to her and hugged her. Her head rested on my chest as my arms wrapped around her.

I missed this. I missed her. I missed us.

"Why not?" I asked
"Because I don't want to hurt anyone," she said pulling away
"How would you hurt us?" I asked confused
"Dante, I told you. I'm not the same girl you fell In love with," she said
"You're right. You aren't the same girl I fell in love with. The girl I fell in love with would've come with me. She would've known how much everyone was hurting back at home because of her death. I guess I made a mistake falling in love with that girl because that girl is long gone," I sighed turning around and walking away.

"Dante," her quiet voice called.

I turned to her. She hadn't moved. She was still standing in the spot.

She reached her hands up and pulled the cloak down. She then removed her scarf.

Cuts, scars, and bruises covered her face. I was shocked.

I jogged over to her and gently lifted her chin up. Her eyes met mine.

"What happened?" I asked angry and worried at the same time
"This village is under my protection. I can't leave them. They need me," she said
"A-are you-" she cut me off
"I am their lord. I can't abandon them. This village gets attacked too much. They have something that a lot of other towns want and I need to protect them," she said
"And what's the thing they want?" I asked
"Me," she quietly said
"If you leave you'll take the attacks away from them too," I said
"I'm their lord, I can't leave them," she said
"But you can't leave me again. I already lost you once. I can't loose you again," I said grabbing her arms
"Dante," she sighed
"Why can't they just find a new lord. The guy I talked to didn't seem like he knew you anyways." I said
"I'm sorry, but I can't leave," she said
"Then I'm coming here," I said
"No, Dante, your entire life is at Phoenix drop," she shook her head
"No. My entire life is standing in front of me," I said looking at her
"You can't leave Phoenix drop," she sighed
"And neither can you," I said
"I already did," she said
"Well then I have too," I said
"Why are you so difficult?" She cracked a small smile
"Because I'm here to get you back to Phoenix drop, back to your friends and family," I said
"Well, it's working," she said
"I know," I smiled
"And Dante," she said
"Yea?" I asked
"Yes," She said revealing the leather bracelet I had made in her arm.

I smiled down at her and gently cupped her face making sure not to hurt her. I leaned down and our lips touch.

She kissed back. I forgot how amazing this was.

"I still love you," she whispered as we pulled away
"I never stopped loving you," I smiled hugging her.
