Chapter 8

(Weak with Grief)

Tori gave up trying to sleep. She was tired and Lucas had suggested she lay down and rest. The blonde haired girl just couldn’t rest. At any time the phone would ring and they’d have the result of the pregnancy test she’d taken. Several people were positive she wasn’t as no one sensed a pregnancy. Then it was brought up that with all the stress she was under her body’s chemical balance would not be accurate and could actually hide a pregnancy.

The green eyed girl had consented but after learning everything it meant she didn’t know what to think. Tori didn’t know what she’d do if the test came back positive. It would be half hers and half River’s. She couldn’t give up her own child but…she couldn’t ask the Marks’ to either. If she was they had to find a way for a compromise.

She left her room and entered the open living room in the suite and froze. Lucas was in the living room with his back to her standing on a yoga mat. He was shirtless and Tori couldn’t have denied he looked tempting even if she’d wanted to.

Lucas turned around to see the girl looking at him surprised. “Sorry,” He apologized. “I figured you’d still be resting. There’s a little more room out here.” Lucas didn’t address the approval he sensed from her but was silently pleased by it. If nothing else at lest the high Prince knew the woman still found him very attractive.

“You still do yoga?” She asked trying to look into his eyes and not at the perfect chest before here.

“It’s your fault,” He replied.

“How is it my fault?” She challenged teasingly as she crossed her arms.

“You’re the one that introduced me to it.”

“Yeah well it’s your fault I kayak,” She countered.

“I’ll take the blame,” He replied smiling at her. She rolled her eyes and he laughed. Hearing the phone they both looked at it. “I’ll get it.” Tori nodded and watched as the shirtless man in black drawstring tied pants walked over and picked up the tan colored phone.

“Hello?” He said picking up the phone.

“Lucas.” He heard Prince Pierre say.

“I trust you have the results?” He said. He looked over to see Tori watching him. A mixture of emotions were radiating off her. None of them were as focused as she was trying to portray.

“You can all relax. Tori is quite definitely not pregnant.”

“It was negative.”

“Actually there’s more. After speaking to Dr. Orsen we learned that Tori and never most likely could never have had children; not biological anyway.”

“Why?” Lucas said becoming concerned. His first thought was “Not again” as he thought of his brother and sister in law.

“River was sterile Lucas. When he and Tori were having trouble conceiving and Tori came back fine he went to be checked. Lucas Tori may not know about this. Orsen said the problem was River. River lived a little on the outrageous side and he is guessing one of the foolish things he’d done in the past caused it but couldn’t specify what. Tori is still perfectly capable of producing you and heir. She was never meant to have a child with River.”

“Thank you. I’ll let her know.” Lucas hung up the phone and looked at the waiting woman.

“Am I?” she asked not hiding her fear.

“No, nor could you be; not by River anyway.”

“What?” The green eyed girl asked confused.
