Chapter 12

(Maylene’s Story)

Tori paid close attention through the night to which individuals interacted together and which seemed to avoid certain people. She hadn’t been at the castle long but she’d kept her ears open and had overheard a few servants dreading what might happen at the ball between certain people. What concerned her however was hearing one of the servants voice concern for Maylene should someone named Cohen and a woman named Cashlin.

Her green eyes scanned the room for Maylene. She couldn’t explain it but felt like something wasn’t right. Tori didn’t like seeing no sign of her future sister in law. Her eyes fell on the double doors that would lead out to a balcony that overlooked the forest off the ballroom.

Calmly she made her way over to the glass doors. She reached the doors and was about to open them when she heard voices.

“As I said congratulations,” Maylene said.

“Yes we will be having more children,” she heard a woman said. “Something you’ll never know the joy of.”

Tori waived to a couple of guards to follow and then quietly slipped outside to see a blonde woman cuddle up to a dark haired man. “Cohen and I are so happy. I always knew I was the woman for him,” she taunted. “You may be a princess but I got the prize. You…”

“Are not on the guest list.”

Tori inwardly smirked seeing all three wolves jump clearly startled. She watched as the man named Cohen and the woman she was certain was Cashlin turn and look at her.

“Why my lady,” Cashlin said suddenly smiling at her. “We just wanted to…”

“Save your breath I heard enough.”

“My Lady,” Justin said making his presence known.

“It seems someone let vermin in,” Tori announced. “Have them removed and barred from the castle immediately!” Tori ordered.

“But I am…”

“Unworthy to be in Maylene’s presence,” The future queen announced. She snapped her fingers and instantly both people were forcefully taken hold of. “Take them out another way. I don’t want them causing anymore trouble.”

“With pleasure,” Justin said. “Move it!” he ordered.

Tori stood proud as she watched them escorted away with shock on their faces. Once they were inside she turned her attention to her future sister-in-law. “Are you alright?” she asked in a comforting voice.

“I didn’t hear you.”

Tori shrugged. “I’m the daughter of an enforcer and I’ve been trained as one,” she reminded her. Maylene nodded but was clearly uncomfortable. “Cohen and Cashlin right?”

“How did…”

“I pay attention,” she replied. “I overheard some of the servants’ voice concerns about them, with regard to you, amongst each other.” Tori watched as Maylene looked down a frown on her face.

“You want to tell me…” Tori stopped seeing a few tears slide down Maylene’s cheeks. She reached over and wiped the woman’s tears away. “I…” hearing a door Tori stopped.

“So this is…what happened?” Logan said becoming concerned as he saw the look in his wife’s eyes.

“It’s been dealt with,” Tori said and turned to face Logan.

“Tori we…what’s going on?” Lucas asked becoming concerned.

“Your bride just had some….pests removed,” Justin said walking back out onto the balcony.
