"So she told you off?"
"I don't know if those are the words to use. I would say that she placed things into perspective."
"Call it what you want but I still say she told you off."
"Tary you are so unbelievable."
After I left the hospital the other night I headed straight home like Ricky told me. Before I could even really step foot in the door my phone rang, and it was Tary on the other line. I was confused because I was sure that I did not give him my number, but he says that I did and it really does not make any sense arguing about it because he already has my number now and I cannot change that.
While we were on the phone I told him about what happened with Ricky. He said he understood why I wanted to stay home so he decided to put off his plans until today. He thought it would be best for me to see the calm side of Minnesota. Away from the doctors and classrooms and away from the hospitals. That is why now we are walking in Folwell Park. And as I look at it and take it all in this place really does remind me of the one back in Boston. The one that has so many memories.
"So do you like it?"
"Like what? The fact that I'm walking in a park with someone that I barely know who could be a ax murderer for all I know. And who's strong enough to drag me off and do whatever it is he wants to do with me? If so, then yes I live for this kind of stuff."
"Is that an offer Jade?"
"Sure it is. But only if you enjoy being castrated." We both erupt in laughter.
It started from yesterday after I went home from the hospital and continues now. I just feel so free and a little happier now. Like the biggest burden has been lifted off of my shoulders and I am finally getting my life back.
A cell phone ring breaks me out of my mental evaluation. At first I think that it is mine. But before I can even put my hand to my back pocket Tary already has his out and has started a conversation.
"Good Evening....yes this is Tary Swain......Yes Sir.....Really?That's wonderful....Well, I am kind of busy right now, but I will make sure to come there when I have a chance..... Thank you. Goodbye." And just as soon as it started it was over. I must say that I was curious about the mysterious conversation. Nothing that Tary said gave the topic that they were talking about away.
"So...Who was that?"
"A person." He replied nonchalantly. Well if he thinks he can get away with this two can play at this game.
"Really?" I say in complete bewilderment, "I had no idea. I thought it was your cat calling to tell you to pick up some milk on your way home."
"Ha very funny! But that wasn't Mr. Tiggles on the phone. "
"So who was it. Please tell me."
"Well if you must know about mu cell phone conversations.... That was my Doctor calling to tell me that my results are in."
"Oh." I wonder how Tary feel about everything that has happened in his life recently. It must be really hard for him.
"Hey Tary? Can I ask you something?
"Yeah, sure what's on your mind?"
"Well I was just thinking-"
"I mean I know I have only known you for a small time, but it seems that every time you get to thinking it never ends good."
"OH MY GOSH.!!!!"
"What?"
"Jordan says the same thing to me. You two are so much alike."
"Well that must mean that he is an awesome man. Both intelligent and handsome." He says with arrogance.
"Anyway. Like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted. Are you scared about what the results might be? Like what would you do if they are positive? Do you think you can handle that?"
He thinks about it for a moment, but I can tell that even before I asked him he had already made up his mind about what his life was going to be. Whether he was positive or negative.
"Well I already made up my mind about all of that. I decided that if I'm positive, the only thing that will change is that I'm going to have to right a sticky note to myself to remember to take my med's. Other than that my life will stay the same I'll make sure of that. I don't want my life to change drastically because I have AIDS. My life will carry on the way it always has."
"Really?"
"Yes really. And if I have friends like you to support me no matter what, then I will be just okay." He smiles at me with the most genuine smile. I never thought about us as friends, I guess because of the way our first encounter went, but i think that I can truly call Tary my friend."
"Well speaking as your friend, I can tell you. I will be here for you whenever you need me. I won't let you down."
"Thanks. And that's good to know." I think Tary and I truly are friends. We actually have been through a lot with each other. Him with his ex-girlfriend and his business and me with Jordan and school. As I continue to look at it, We are similar in so many ways, but I think this friendship will be the best one that I can have because we can help each other through these difficult times that we are facing. As I am about to ask Tary how the business is going, I hear another phone ring. This time it belongs to me.
"Hello?" I am a little confused at first but I listen to what is happening on the next line.
"Jade. Thank God I've been trying to reach you for the longest time." On the other line is a panicking Nurse Ricky.
"Yes Ricky? What's the matter?"
"Jade we need you to come to the hospital right now. Hurry and get down here." I have never heard her like this. She always seems so in control of things but something drastic must have happened.
"Ricky, What's going on?"
"It's Jordan. Something has happened to him and we need you here right now."
No Jordan. Please don't do this to me. I was finally getting over it. Please.
Before she can say another word I am literally running down the path in the park trying to get to the parking lot. I can hear Tary running behind me and shouting my name, but I cannot stop running. All I can think is that I have to get to Jordan. Still running but slowing my pace just a small amount I shout back to him, "I have to go something happened with Jordan and the hospital I have to go right now."
Why is this happening to me?
"Jade you can't drive like this. Let me drive you there." I ponder on his offer.
"Well don't just stand there, let's go."
