That girl you talked to
Or guy
It doesn't matter either way around
Think about them
The last person you saw
Did you really see them?
Was it an illusion?
Really look now.

Keep picturing them
Did you remember their appearance
And does that even matter to you
Or did you remember their laugh
The shadow of the light in their eyes
Can you see their eyes without that light

Can you see their stories written on their skin
Or are they concealed in the heart
Did they sound happy
Or bitter
Or soulless
Or empty
Did they sound kind
Or evil
Or broken
Or lost
And do you really know who you saw

Or did you see their shadow

I found that if you look close enough
If you show your brokenness and your jagged edges
They'll show you theirs
stories for stories
Thoughts for thoughts
And they do have a story

Is their story a heaven
Or a starlit night
Or is it the darkness
Without any light
And either way did you help them to find
The happiness or belonging or whatever
That fits in that jagged hole in their heart
Or at the end of the day was it still there

Like any other day?
Did you really see them
And did they really see you
Or is it all just illusions and shadows

At the end of the day did your encounter mean anything
Or was it a dust particle
Did you help them
Or did you leave them the same
And
Which
Did
You
Want
To
Do?

Did they even want your help?
Did you mean anything
Or were you static
