Part 9

Part 9: Am I really going to be this hopeless?

As they followed the route, they arrived in The Forest of Giant Trees which was once a tourist spot before it was taken over by the titans.

“Captain… why are we entering the woods?” Petra questioned.

“Just shut your mouth for a while… I, too, don’t know what the reason is.” Levi replied coldly… “Let’s just focus on the objective for now.”

All she knew… that it was her fault for making him reply coldly… it was because of what happened last night… but does she need to blame herself though?

They entered the woods… a lot of questions ran in their minds.

Why were they brought in the woods? Why was the formation directed towards the woods?

Eren also asked the same question, but Levi complemented the environment.

“Look at all these big-ass trees… Eren. This place, is perfect for the 3D maneuver gear.”

A wave of silence suddenly engulfed them, but their thoughts were occupied. What was going on? The expression of the squadron was filled with question, and anxiety. A black smoke round was fired in the air later on.

“Captain!!! An Aberrant has been sighted!”

“Whatever wiped out the right flank is coming right from behind us…” Erd added.

“Draw out your blades.” Levi commanded. “If we see it, it will only last for a second.”

They all did what he said and drew out their blades. As they looked back, they sighted a soldier. As they stared at him, something punched him while in mid-air…

It was a titan, which resembled the body of a female.

Petra and the others were stunned. They were enveloped by panic the moment they saw the horrid titan chasing after them.

“Captain!! Let’s switch to maneuver gear!!” Petra called, but he wasn’t paying attention at all. “Captain!!” She called out again, but it was no use. He just stared at it.

The others also wanted to switch to maneuver gear, but Levi simply ignored their suggestion. They sighted two others attempting to kill it.

“Reinforcements from the rear!”

Of course, the two were wiped out by the titan. And what’s worst, it knew how the maneuver gear functioned.

“Captain!!” Petra shouted… she was already scared. “What are your orders?!”

“We have to fight it! It’s dangerous!!” Auruo followed.

“I’ll rip you apart…” Erd said as he glared at the titan.

Levi never looked back, but to slow it down, he has to fire a sound grenade.

“Cover your ears.” He brought out the gun, and fired it, bringing out a very disturbing sound, which slowed down the titan a bit.

As the titan slowed down, Levi looked back at them.  Needed to convince them so none of them would get killed. “What’s our objective?” He glared at each of them. “Was it to let your emotions take over? It isn’t. Our objective, was to protect this brat…” He looked back to the front. “…even if it would cost our lives…”

Everyone was silenced. Petra suddenly realized that she was being taken by her emotions after his statement. Even from the looks of the others, they were quite ashamed.
