Till the Last Moment ( Levi x Petra / Rivetra Shingeki no Kyojin / SNK)

                She was only a young girl when she made a resolve to slay the titans. After watching people get eaten in front of her own very eyes, she knew she had to save humanity, even if it would be the cost of her life.

                She graduated, after a few years of diligent training, and decided to enter the scouting legion. Her cold heart told herself, she must settle a score with them. Within those years, she has shown good marks and talent, shedding titan’s blood on her hands. She was a hungry wolf. And in the current expedition they are in, they were going to fight the titans yet again. Some forces were lost, including a few people who are right in her perimeter. She was furious, and obviously charged at them. One of them was running away, attention caught to some of the other soldiers flocking near the forest. As she soars the air with her maneuver gear, someone called to her from behind.

                “Hey you! Don’t you dare go head on slaying those bastards all alone!” It was the Lance Corporal Levi, chasing her from behind, catching up with her speed with the maneuver gear. But Petra ignores him, and speeds up faster.

                “Petra! You’re using too much of your gas!! Slow down!!” He pleaded, but she still ignored him. She knew that the gas she has will be emptied, but she did not care at all, she was filled with grief and anger, that she wanted to annihilate them all. She lost comrades in front of her eyes. She can’t let this happen again. As she swiftly flew into the forest, a 14 meter class appeared before her. She was ready to engage in attack, but, unfortunately, she ran out. She fell down, her body hitting the soft branches, until she was left hanging by a strong branch. Her uniform was caught, and it was easy for the 14 meter giant to take her, and devour her whole.  She looked at the ground, and knew she’d still be alive when she falls, but the titan can easily get hold of her and break her like a twig.

                It was hopeless, she thought. The titan took hold of her in its hand, and was about to take her in, but something swift flashed behind the giant, showering a lot of blood from behind. The titan fell, and loosened its grip of her, but still found it hard to get up. She just closed her eyes and covered her face with an arm.

“Are you alright?” A deep cold voice echoed down, and when she opened her eyes, it was him. The man who chased her all the way here, Levi. He immediately cut off the fingers of the evaporating Titan, grabbed her hand, helping her up. “Please do not do anything reckless. You could’ve died back there if I did not catch up with you.”

“I have to kill them!!” She insisted. “I can’t waste my time here!!” She continued, until he held her shoulders.

“Petra, I want to do the same thing. But that doesn’t mean you have to throw away your own life.”

“BUT THEY KILLED MY COMRADES!!!” She scolded. Later on, Levi glared at her. Of course, she suddenly felt this uneasiness in her chest. Fear.

“They’re not only your comrades. Please do me a favor and value your life. I can’t bear to lose another comrade of mine again.” He bowed his head down, not showing his face. But Petra stared at it, and saw grief in his expressions. All this time, she thought this captain was a cold and heartless human, who was wounded by these monsters instead, she saw a soft side of him, that suddenly changed her mindset in that moment. Probably, there was something in him that brought her forth into the light of this nightmare.

Seeing that side of him, gave her the thought that it was definitely possible to love him… and it was that time, within the struggle to survival, she’d never believe she’d meet someone she would immediately have feelings for immediately, like him.

From that day, she did her best, and attained a high number of titan kills from that day. Aside from Levi, she also got along with Auruo, Erd, and Gunter, who also excelled at killing Titans. With a lot of titan kills, Levi always complemented Petra on her strength.

Days passed, they were all required to eliminate the titans lingering in the district of Wall Maria. Petra watched Levi save his comrade while slaying the Titan that was munching half his body. The man dropped to the ground after. “It seems you’re exerting too much effort in this. Why don’t you tend to the wounded instead? You’re tired already.” Levi told her as he pats her shoulder. “You’ve done enough for now.” He prepared to launch. “I’ll deal with the ones on the left… you guys handle the ones on the right!!” He launched his gear and travelled magnificently fast with his maneuver gear, and slain titans within matters of seconds.

She stared at him as he cut their napes with no hassle at all. All that was in her mind was… “Cool…”  After admiring his actions, she immediately tended to the wounded like Levi said so. She encountered one who had a grave injury. She tended to him, before he died, but he was already losing too much blood. She tried to stop it, but it was no use.

“Do you think I was of use to humanity??” He asked as his eyes were locked up on the sky. “Did I contribute help to my comrades?” She was certain, this was his last moment. She wanted to answer, but she didn’t know what kind of words to at least comfort him.

“At least… I did not have to die inside the monster’s stomach… Have Captain Levi… my thanks…” Petra nodded to his statement and smiled. “I’ll be sure to give your regards to him.”

“Petra! How’s things going there?” Levi’s voice echoed to her. She immediately looked to where his voice was.

“He’s losing too much blood Captain… I tried to stop it…” She looked down, and filled with guilt, that she can’t save the life of this soldier.

Levi made a conversation with the injured soldier, and he also asked the same question he asked Petra. The soldier was already in tears.

“Captain… W-was I able… to help humanity? Or… will I die, never having been of any use at all?” He asked, while tears were falling in his eyes. This was definitely the soldier’s last moments… Petra thought.

Levi grabbed hold of his bleeding hand, and held it tightly. “You have done a great deal. And you will continue to do so. The resolve you will leave behind will give me strength. I promise you… I will obliterate the Titans!”

A few moments of silence engulfed them and the soldier was not breathing anymore. Petra realized, he really has a soft side to his comrades. Despite his cold look, his heart and mind is focused on human life, and it is indeed true, that he treasures human lives, like when he saved her when she was about to be devoured by the monster.

“Did he hear me till the very end?” He asked as he looked straight into her eyes.

Petra looked at the breathless soldier, and he wore a smile on his face. A smile that would say “Thank You”

Tears unconsciously fell down from her eyes.

“It seems so Captain… He surely has heard you all throughout…” She smiled down deep inside, falling more and more for him.
