Chapter 19: Partners

A/N I am soooooooo sooooo sorry guys! I know it has been forever but I have been so busy with school and work and just life in general! But here is the update now, its not as long as you all deserve but at least its something! Thank you guys for alll of your patience! Claire’s POV

    I awoke not in my room but in someone else’s, I looked around for a minute feeling slightly afraid until I realized I was in Mark’s room….. shit, I was in Mark’s room. I looked over to my left and found Mark sleeping soundly in the bed next to me, his chest was exposed showing his perfect abs and I smiled slightly, the events of the day before returning to me.

    His eyes fluttered open and he rubbed them before looking over at me and smiling. “Good morning beautiful.” He whispered and I smiled before answering “Morning to you as well.” He sat up and kissed me gently on the mouth before lying back down.

   A million thoughts were running through my head, a million questions that I wanted to ask but didn’t know how to start, I had even run out of things to say! I watched him as he rolled out of bed and shuffled to the bathroom. I needed an excuse and quick!

   “Hey Mark! I need to go get ready for work! I will talk to you later okay?” I waited quietly for an answer and finally I heard a muffled response. “Okay Claire! Talk to you later!” I quickly rolled off the bed and threw on my clothes, I took a peek out into the hall to make sure no one was there, when the coast was clear I slipped out of Mark’s room and off to my own.

Electra’s POV

    The Doctor had to work today, he always had to work, the world was dying and I was being left out, no one was telling me anything. I Was getting more and more frustrated by the day, I needed to do something to fix the timeline, I had to make sure everything went back to the way it belonged. I decided that while the Doctor was working the best thing I could do would be to continue my work on rebuilding the experiment.

    I dressed quickly and went to join everyone in the cafeteria, they would all be almost done but I wanted to say hi before they all went to work. I got my food and went over to where the Doctor was seated with Jack, and Rick.

 “Morning everyone.”

“Morning Electra.” Everyone muttered as the Doctor kissed me on the cheek and took one of my hands in his discreetly under the table. I smiled slightly as I picked up my spoon and began to eat with my free hand.

    I listened to the quiet chatter and watched as the room began to empty. Eventually Rick and Jack took their leave of us and I looked over at the Doctor and smiled. “I’ll miss you today.” I said with a smile and he kissed my forehead.

    “I will miss you as well, but I really have to go, I will see you tonight ok?” He gave me a reassuring smile that I returned, I was really starting to feel guilty about what I was about to do.

    “Yep see you tonight.” He stood up and left the room quickly leaving me in the empty cafeteria with only my thoughts. I finished my breakfast and left the now empty echoing room as quickly as possible.

     I walked down the halls keeping a wary eye out so I wouldn’t be seen going where I really shouldn’t be going. I was walking down the hall where the old lab was when I felt someone else somewhere in the hall, I couldn’t see them so they had to be hiding, which meant they knew someone was coming that shouldn’t be, or that they themselves didn’t belong here just like me.

     I slowed my pace and walked silently up to where the mystery person had to be hiding, there was an indentation in the wall which was the perfect size for a human to hide in. I reached around and grabbed hold of what felt like combat gear and pulled.

     Claire came stumbling out of the pocket in the wall and I pressed her up against a wall. “Hello Claire, how’re things?” I asked with a smile as Claire stared at me in shock.

     It took her a few minutes to find her voice and then she finally answered. “Electra, I didn’t expect to see you here, I heard someone coming so I hid.”

    “Yea that someone was me, and why should you have to hide? Can’t you go anywhere on the base?”

    Claire studied me for a moment, it looked like she was thinking about whether or not she could trust me. She must have come to a conclusion because she sighed and then spoke.

    “Neither the Doctor or my father want me to go in that room over there.” She gestured to the old lab I myself was sneaking off to. “I have no idea why and when I was about 15 I went there for the first time, I never touch anything, I just peek under a few sheets and try to figure out what everything is.”

    I nodded my head in understanding and released my grip on her as I took a step back. “That room holds the secret to fixing what is wrong with the world, last time me and the Doctor tried to fix it, everything went horribly wrong and that’s how I ended up here, in the future.” Claire looked very confused about what I had just said, and frankly I couldn’t blame her. I gestured for her to follow me and I went over to the forbidden door and stepped inside.

    Claire followed me in and I shut the door, I walked over and grabbed two ancient folding chairs and gestured for her to sit down. She looked at me almost concerned but sat anyway and I followed suit. The chair creaked a little even under my light frame but it settled and then I began my tale. I told Claire everything about me and the Doctor, the Time War, how we came to be in this mess. Absolutely everything, when I was done she was sitting with her jaw slightly open in shock.

    “I had absolutely no idea…. No one has ever told me this.” Claire said finally getting over her shock enough to find her voice.

   “It doesn’t surprise me they never told you to be honest.” I was watching her, I could see all of the cogs in her mind turning as  I waited for her to say something.

    “This needs to be fixed.” She finally said with enough conviction that I knew she believed it with all of her heart. I nodded my head and stood walking over to one of the machines and pulling the sheet off of it.

     “That’s what I am going to do, and it’s going to work this time. But I can’t tell Rick of the Doctor, and I could use some help.” I was hoping she would say yes, I wasn’t sure if it was wrong to ask someone to help fix a world that if fixed she would most likely never be born into. But I needed her help.

    “Yes, absolutely.” Claire said as she stood up and came over to me. I shot her a beaming smile, all of the guilt I had just felt slipping away as I pulled off some more sheets.

    “In that case, let’s get started!”

A/N What did you think? Not my best work but I was in a bit of a rush..... hopefully I can update again sooner than later but I cant promise anything :(
