Electra’s POV

I stood in a publishing office waiting for my meeting with the editor. It had been two months since I started my book, and I had finally completed the rough draft. I wanted to show it to a few publishers and see if anyone was interested before I finished it.

The Doctor had pretty much settled back into the swing of things, or at least he seemed like he had, I think he still thought about River, but most of his time was focused on either his job or finding a way out. If I sold my book, he could quit and devote all of his time to finding an escape.

I helped him when I could, but most of my time was spent at the library or writing so I wasn’t much help. “Mrs. Matthews the editor will see you now.” The young secretary said as I was snapped from my thoughts.

“Thank you.” I said as I walked past her and into the editors office. “Hello Mrs. Matthews please have a seat.” The editor said and I smiled and sat down. “Hello Mr. Conway thank you for taking the time to meet with me.” I said and he smiled. “Anytime, so I understand you have a manuscript you would like me to consider publishing.” He said and I nodded as I handed him the parchment wrapped stack of paper.

He opened the paper and looked at the title. “It’s a mystery then?” He said and I nodded. “Is it complete?” He asked and I shook my head. “No I wanted to see if anyone would consider publishing it before I started on the final draft.” I said and he nodded.

“That was a smart idea.” He said and I smiled. “Have you given this manuscript to any other publishers?” He asked. “No but I do have appointments lined up with two more editors for the end of this week.” I said and he nodded.

“Well I will certainly take a look at this at give you a call in a few days.” He said and I nodded as I stood up. “My contact information is on the final page.” I said and he nodded as he stood up and shook my hand. “I’ll be in touch Mrs. Matthews.” He said as I left his office.

I hailed a cab and went quickly back to the flat, when I got there the Doctor was sitting in the living room, on the floor, tinkering with something. He had pieces of paper with mathematical equations lying all over the floor and he stopped buzzing his device with the sonic when I came in.

“How was work?” I asked as I took my coat off and sat down next to him on the floor. “It was fine but this is better, how did the meeting go?” He asked as he went back to work. “It went fine, the guy said he would take a look at it.” I said and he nodded. “Good, that’s good right?” He asked as he turned to look at me. “Yes yes it’s good.” I said and he smiled.

Doctor’s POV

She looked happy, for the first time in a long time, as she sat there on the floor next to me, she looked genuinely happy. I had known her long enough to know that she didn’t have to be smiling to be happy, sometimes it was just the content look she had on her face.
