Chapter 21: Conflictions.

A/N Hey everyone! So an update! And it hasnt been months! yay!!!! Few things though! One! Please click on the external link and like my facebook page! Electra’s POV

     I stood in the old lab waiting for Claire to arrive, today we finished the device, tomorrow I travelled back. I am not going to lie, I was starting to get nervous. I kept praying that the device would work this time, that me and Claire wouldn’t be interrupted.

    I was pulled from my thoughts as Claire slipped into the room and waved at me as she locked the door. “Hey, you ok?” She asked as she walked over to me.

    “Yep, fine, just thinking.” She nodded to show she understood and went over to the machine.

    “I can’t believe we will be done today.” She said as she began to work on the machine, I went over to join her before answering.

     “Yea me either…”

     “Are you sure you’re ok? Cause you seem really down and conflicted to me.”

     I looked over at her and smiled. “Yea I am a little, its just I am ready to go back, but I am also going to miss some of the people I am leaving behind.”

    “It’ll be alright, I know it.” Was all she said before we both slipped into a comfortable silence.

     “I cannot believe its finished.” Claire said quietly as we stepped back from the repaired machine two hours later and admired our handiwork.

     “It took us bloody long enough.”

     Me and Claire admired the machine for a few more minutes before I turned to face her. “I will see you tomorrow at midnight…. Alright?”

    “You got it Electra.” She replied with a smile as we both hugged and then snuck out of the lab. I walked down the hall to the cafeteria where I knew everyone else would be at this time of day.

    I walked into the cafeteria and waved at Jack who was sitting at the usual table all by himself. I grabbed something quick to eat and joined him. “Hey Jack.” I said as I sat down.

     “Hey girl how’s it goin?” He said with one of his classic smiles and a wink. I rolled my eyes at him before responding.

    “Fine, where is everyone?” He smiled at me again and took a bite of his food taking the time to chew before responding. “Some sort of technical meeting, I didn’t need to be there and I was hungry so I left.”

    I laughed slightly at his response as I began eating. “So what have you been up to? He asked me with a curious look and I shrugged.

    “Nothing much, just hanging out, reading, the usual.” He nodded and we finished eating in silence. When we had finished and were walking out of the cafeteria Jack stopped me.

      “Good luck Electra.” Was all he said before running off to a meeting he actually had to attend. I started off in the opposite direction slightly confused by what he meant. I went back to me and the Doctors room and lied down on the bed.

   Staring up at the ceiling I said another silent prayer that all of this would be fixed, and then I rolled over to grab a book off the nightstand.

Doctor’s POV

     I stood on the surface near the entrance to Torchwood. I was gazing out over the destruction of what used to be London. After over 30 years it was now a wasteland, everything in ruins, practically uninhabitable.

    What remained of Big Ben could just barely be seen through the haze of the chemicals of war. I sighed inwardly and shoved my hands into my pockets like I did in the old days. I heard the rumble of jeeps and I turned away from the remains of a once magnificent city to see the rest of my team join me on the surface.

    “Hey need a lift?” Claire said with a smile as she pulled her jeep to a stop next to me.

     “Yea I suppose I could use one.” I said as I climbed into the passenger seat barley having time to settle into my seat before Claire took off.

     “Where were you earlier?” I asked loudly over the roar of the engine. Claire glanced at me before answering.

      “Around, I had some things to do before we went out today, it’s not like you needed me in the meeting I missed anyway.” She took a sharp left turn and I quickly grabbed onto the door to keep from being tossed around.

    Five minute later we came to a screeching halt and I stepped out without a word to Claire about her driving. I learned a long time ago that it was not helpful to critique her on it. It was painful if you tried as well. Shuddering at the memory I quickly followed after Claire as we joined Jack and the rest of the team.

     “Okay guys today is just a simple scan of the area to make sure the enemy isn’t invading out territory.”  I heard Jack say as we entered the ring of men.

    “What area are we working today Jack?” Claire asked as Jack nodded and pulled out a map.

     “We are in charge of the entire area of section 24, this is a little bigger of a section than we are used to covering so we need to get a move on so we can be done before dark. Got it?” All of the men sounded the affirmative and quickly divided into groups before taking off.

Electra’s POV

     The Doctor stumbled tiredly into the room at around ten thirty, I rolled off the bed and hurried over to him as soon as I saw he was back. “Doctor what happened?” I asked as I helped him over to  chair and he sat down.

    “Enemy is slowly breaching our territory, me Claire and Jack have been on the run for hours, we couldn’t contact the base and we just made it back thirty minutes ago.”

    “I was worried about you guys, is everyone alright?” I asked the dull ache of fear rising ever higher in my chest as the moments passed.

    “Not sure, the rest of our team isn’t back yet.” He slowly stood as he said this and shuffled over to the bathroom. “We are going to be fully debriefed in the morning, but right now I need to take a shower and get some rest.”

    I nodded as he shut the door and moments later I heard the sound of the shower running. I went over and lied back down on the bed thinking about what he had just told me. This was all getting very bad very fast, me and Claire didn’t have any more time. “We have to act now.” I whispered and began to formulate my plan before the Doctor returned.
