Alexander Hamilton had a problem. Actually, he had a lot of problems, but this one was the worst of them. The fact was, he was dating a pretty girl. That in itself seems perfectly fine, if not amazing. And on top of that, the pretty girl's last name was "Schuyler," so he should not be complaining. However, the problem was not that he was dating a pretty girl, the problem was that he wasn't in love with the pretty girl. Okay, well he can't be expected to fall in love with every person he dates, that's a given. There's another layer to the dilemma that Alex had gotten himself into. He wasn't in love with the girl, no, he was in love with his best friend. And the best friend wasn't of a female gender. He was in love with John Laurens.

As you can see, Alex has driven himself into a shitstorm.

And, Alex hasn't told anyone about said problem. He just expected it to, basically, leave him if he dated Eliza Schuyler long enough. For a moment there, he really did forget about the problem by submerging himself into his studies and his girlfriend (but mostly his studies).

This all changed.

"So," Alex had said to Eliza. "Are we doing anything this summer?"

"Oh, that's what I had been meaning to tell you," Eliza had replied, taking his hand into her own, cupping it over his. "The first month, July, my family is going on a vacation. But I'll be totally free August, we can spend that together. Y'know, if you aren't too busy with Summer Assignments." Eliza knew her boyfriend well enough to know that he would spend most of his waking hours reading and doing extra work while she was gone.

"Nah, I'll work harder during July. But I dunno. It's fine that you won't be here, though. I'll have Laf, Herc and John to annoy me." He rolled his eyes, half-goodnaturedly. "Have fun with your family."

Eliza beamed, planting a soft kiss on Hamilton's cheek. "Thanks, I love you."

Alex always winced internally, when he heard those words. What was he supposed to do? Lie (he lied)? Well, yeah, he was Eliza's boyfriend... he had to love her.

Even though, even he knew, he loved someone else. His affections belonged to another.

"You guys better not bother me during the summer," Alex had said, walking into the shared apartment between his three best friends and himself. "I'm gonna try and get as much work done as possible."

"Well, uh, mon ami" Laf stammered, holding Hercule's hand. "We are not gonna be here over the summer."

"What do you mean?" Alex said, looking up.

"Nous ne sommes pas va être ici pendant l'été." Lafayette repeated, in French.

"No," Alex said, waving a hand at Lafayette's direction. "I understood, but what do you mean? Are you guys...leaving?"

"Just for July," Hercules said. "Don't worry, we won't elope."

"I doubt it," Ham muttered, under his breath. Ever since the two started dating, they'd been joint at the hip. It was cute but draining. Maybe them leaving wouldn't be so bad. Albeit a little lonely, by himself. "Is Laurens going anywhere?"

Herc simply shrugged and said "I dunno, go ask him yourself."

Alex had a sick feeling in his gut that he'd end up alone with the man he actually did love. And knowing him, he'd do something to mess up everything.

"Hey John," Alex said, making his way over to John's room. He leaned against the doorframe.

"Yeah Alex?" John looked up from his turtle tank. His curly hair and freckled face made Alex's heart skip a beat nearly every time he saw the man. "What's up?"

"Um, are you gonna be here in July?" Alex had asked him.

Lauren's gave him a sweet smile. "Yeah, I am. I heard Laf and Herc were going on some cheesy romantic getaway for I guess it's just gonna be you and me, huh man?"

"Yeah," Alex managed a weak smile. "I suppose so."

"Great." John said and turned back to his turtle. "Wanna hold him?" He asked.

"No," Alex said, immediately. "He always bites me."

"That's because he hates everyone."

He doesn't hate you, Alex thought, nobody could hate you.

So that's the story of how Alex is basically screwed.
