It was time.
Emma was quickly on her way to my house with her makeup kit, something that was far beyond my level of understanding, (I swear there was like a thousand things in there)!I wasn't that I was nervous—ok fine, I was nervous, but just thinking about seeing Reed got me in a horrible mood. And since he hadn't been at school yesterday, this would be the first time since the incident. I don't think I could pull off 'acting normal' while knowing that he had been lying to me all this time.
I mean, who does that?
My dress was hung in my closet in a very secure place, far away from any curious, prying, hands that might want to touch it. That black gown served one purpose and only one purpose only: to make me look good. And it definitely was not going to make me look good it was covered in other people's greasy fingerprints.
As I brought out the hair straightener and other hair products, I heard a car
pull into the driveway, and shortly after, a knock on the door.I rushed down, taking two stairs at a time and almost losing my balance. On the other side of the door, Emma was impatiently waiting, her feet moving up and down in a fast motion, like a child awaiting their favorite candy.
"You got here a little faster than expected."
"Duh." she said matter-a-factly, "plus, I might have gone a little over the speed limit."
"—Emma!"
"Oh please, as if you always follow the rules."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed Em by the arm. "Focus on what's important. Make me look hot."
"Don't need to, you ready are," she said with a wink.
I loved Emma. She's one of those people that is excessively hyper 24/7, and has enough energy for two people. Which is convenient cause half of the time at school, I feel dead inside.
"Alright hun. Don't move. And if I hurt you, too bad. Tu Bonita equals pain, deal with it."
"Your vocabulary is disgusting Emma, fix it."
Sitting me down, she opened her makeup kit and got all the brushes and blenders out. "Shuut uppppp. Nobody cares, I'm trying to get in the zone."
I rolled my eyes and relaxed a little in my chair.
If I new Emma well enough, this might take a while.••••••••
So it turned out I didn't end up looking like a clown. Emma's beauty blenders and contouring worked some magic, (not that I knew what that was).
And my hair looked really good. It was slick straight, which is almost impossible considering how much of it I have attached to my head.
As I tried on the dress, I looked at myself in the mirror confidently and took a deep breath. "You look great," assured Em.
I smiled and gave the bottom of my dress a final tug. "Yeah, good job best friend.""Alright," Emma said with a pause, "now you do me."
I turned around and looked at her incredulously. "You're joking right? I can't do makeup to save my life."
