Everything was normal and alright. Moriah and...
Joel smiled and crawled to where Issac was. Issac giggled and ran away from him, turning to see if his dad was catching up.
Moriah smiled at them. She giggled when she saw that Joel was closer to getting Issac. She turned back to her book, and kept reading on her couch.
Joel smirked as he saw Moriah reading. He looked at Issac and nodded. Issac smiled wideley, and ran behind the couch where Moriah sat. Joel walked to Moriah and pulled the book from her hands, which made Moriah come closer to him. Joel chuckled. "Always have your nose in a book, Moriah?"
Moriah grinned and rolled her eyes. "Just give me my book, it was the best part!"
Issac jumped from behind couch and ran to Moriah. He hugged her from behind and giggled. Moriah giggled gave a surprised look at Joel then laughed. "Really? You needed backup?"
Joel raised and eyebrow and smiled. "Actually, I didn't. He was a suprise."
Moriah laughed and playfully hit Joel's arm. Joel laughed harder. Moriah knelt down to Issac and smiled. "You helped daddy do this?"
Issac smiled and nodded.
Moriah smirked and grabbed Issac. She tickled him, and Issac laughed uncontrollably. Joel chuckled and knelt down beside Moriah. "Have I been forgotten?!"
Moriah laughed as Joel joined in. Issac laughed and wiggled, trying to get away from their grip but realized that wasn't going to happen. Issac moved so much, he let go of his favorite car, and it rolled under the couch.
Through his laughs he tried to speak. "M-my... C-car... Is... G-gone!" Joel and Moriah stopped and Issac still laughed. Issac finally stopped laughing and breathed, then he got up and went to get his toy car.
As Issac searched for his car, Joel wrapped one arm around Moriah's waist and pulled her closer. Moriah looked at Joel and laughed softly. "Joel, there's a child in the room."
Joel heard what Moriah said, but ignored it. He faced Moriah and smiled at her. Moriah blushed as Joel pulled her even closer. There foreheads touched, and Joel took advantage of the moment and kissed her.
Issac reached for his car that was under the couch. He stretched his arm and tried to feel the car. He grab what he felt first and pulled it out. The light revealed what it was. It was a picture, of Joel, Moriah, Tamara, Joanna, Alanis, and Issac a year ago.
Issac forgot about his toy car and ran to Moriah and Joel, who parted from their kiss. Issac pointed to the picture and showed his parents.
"Mommy, look."
Moriah carefully grabbed it and looked at the picture. It was all of them, Joel, Moriah, Tamara, Joanna, Alanis, and Issac, together, back when nothing was wrong. When they all were happy and together.
Joel looked over Moriah's shoulder to see what they were looking at. He lost his smile. "Alanis..." He whispered.
Moriah's eyes filled with tears. Joel covered his mouth, trying his best not to cry. Issac looked at Moriah and Joel, his eyes lost it's spark.
"Mommy, I miss Lani."
Moriah let a tear fall, but she wiped it and sniffed. "I do, too."
Joel put his arm around Moriah, she buried her face in his shoulder crying. Issac looked down, remembering everything he use to do with Alanis.
Issac crawled over to Moriah and Joel. He looked at Moriah and played with a strand of her hair. Joel let his head lay on top of Moriah's head. He cried as he remembered the first time he met Alanis.
She was shy, and timid, and afraid to even look at him. Joel remembered trying to make Alanis smile. He did make her smile at the end, when he tripped and fell on his face and was rushed to the hospital.
Joel hugged Issac with his free arm and Issac embraced Moriah, who was sobbing.
It was difficult to accept the truth, that Alanis would never come back. And although it caused them pain, they knew it was for the best.
Love is sacrifice.
