I was scared, scared shitless. And Daniel's heavy breathing on my neck was not helping at all.

"Shy thats your dad." Daniel stated obviously for the tenth time.

"Yes D I know."

"He's the chief." He stated..again.

"Yes D I know that too." I really tried not to get aggrevated by him right now, my heart felt like it was going to decapitate any moment now with my dad staring at me like that. All Vain popped and stuff.

"So He's read the statement." I heard D state the obvious again and gulp.

"Im sure he has."

If it was possible Daniel breath even harder. Leo looked on from the floor with a tiny bit of interest and for the first time since I've been here Birtha didn't say a word.

"He's gonna kill me isn't he."

I rolled my eyes at Daniel's statement, holding back the 'probably' that sat on my tongue.

Sliding out of Daniel's stiff arm, I got up walking to the open cell door, walking to my dad, to my death. My heart pounded with each step.

My lips trembled as I spoke, "Dad I can exp--"

"My.office.now." He didn't yell, but his voice left no room for arguement and his eyes were ablazed. So being the good little daddy's girl that I am I didn't talk back, I just walked and I didn't turn around until I heard the cell door shut closed behind me and noticed that Daniel was still inside.

"Don't let him out."

My head whipped around so fast at my dad's words I almost broke my neck.

"What do you mean don't let him out?!"

My dad only gave me a stern look before turning back to the officer seated at the desk to gaurd the cell.

"He's only released on my command do you hear me?" The chief had spoken. The officer nodded, but I was not having that.

I looked at Daniel who looked back at me with wide eyes, fear sketched on his face. "You can't leave him in there." My voice rose as I looked from D to my Dad. Pleading with him not to leave my bestfriend locked in a cell with a bunch of people we didn't know!

"I'll keep him in there as long as I want. Now go to my office and not another word!" I can tell he tried to keep his voice calm, but in the end he wound up yelling anyways, causing me to jump.

"Don't yell at her like that."

We both turned surprised at the voice.

Daniel now stood, his head held high, teeth clenched tight. "your scaring her, don't yell at her like that."

Was he crazy?! Did he freaking lose his mind? Oh somebody help me! Help him! Protecting me from Jake is one thing, but from my dad! These concrete walls must be closing in on him. I mean that has to be the only reason my bestfriend, an inmate, just stood up to my dad, the chief of police.

I thought I was going to die, right then and there. Even though my heart was covered in a blanket of warmth by Daniel's actions, I was absolutely terrified for him.

There was nothing said, you could hear a pin drop, and besides my own heart galloping in my ears, I could have sworn I heard Daniel's too. And that made me want to fight for him even more, because if he was willing to stand up for me even though he was afraid, I could do the same. I would always do the same.

Before I could go all charleys angel's on my dad, he did something I did not expect.

He walked to the bars meeting Daniel eye to eye and said,"Take a seat son." And then he walked away, looking behind him to make sure I was following. He's not going to yell? Slam him against the bars? Chain him to the bench and throw away the key ?!
