"Stay here!" Jackson yelled as he ran from the house, leaving me stunned and confused.

For ten minutes I stayed glued to the couch, mentally telling myself that everything was ok, but that was as long as it lasted. I quickly made my way to the back of the house and looked out the kitchen window. I saw an older man running in my direction. He had the same gray hair that Alan had, but a lot more of it and he was definitely fit. In his arms was a limp, naked body. He was running towards me like the weight of the body was nothing.

I quickly moved to the door and pulled it open, stepping out on the small back deck. The sound of growls filled my ears like roaring thunder. I couldn't believe that I didn't hear from inside the house. The wind was blowing more so than it was earlier and it seemed colder to me. It was like Mother Nature herself was angry with what was happening.

When the man got closer I was able to see that his light colored jeans were covered in dirt and blood, but his dark colored shirt showed nothing.

"Sadie?" The man asked in a deep, strained voice. I nodded. "You're a nurse?" I nodded again. "Good, prepare yourself because we are in for a long night."

"What?" I squeaked as him pushed past me, moving swiftly into the living room. My heart was pounding so loud in my ears that I wasn't entirely sure that I had heard him correctly.

"She was shot with a silver bullet, I pulled it out, but she is still bleeding. Silver shuts down our healing for a while, so you will be treating them as they are humans." He didn't look up as me as he fussed over the girl that he had just laid down on the couch. "Can you touch silver?"

I was about to answer but I stopped short. I wasn't sure if I could touch silver. My mom had said that I could when I was younger but wasn't sure about now. I had always hated jewelry and mom had never kept anything silver in the house, she thought it was tacky. I never questioned it, because I never had a reason to.

I remembered when my mom used to ask me to grab things off the shelf for her at the store and then tell me to put it back, now that I think about it, it was always something silver. It's amazing how strange things seem so normal until you actually have a rationale for it. Why didn't I ever question that odd behavior?

"I -I don't know," I finally stuttered out.

The man stopped what he was doing and looked up at me. He then slipped a glove on his hand and riffled through his pocked until he came up with a bullet. He held it between his thumb and finger, giving it a disgusted look. Without warning he threw it at me, and I instinctively caught it.

"Ahh!" I screamed out when it touched my hand and began to sizzle my skin, making me feel sick to my stomach. I dropped it immediately and gave the man my best death glare. I looked back down at my hand and saw a blister already starting to form.

"So you can't, good to know. Come over here and hold this bandage."

I walked over numbly and placed my hand over the bandage that was covering the girl's stomach. She was very small and extremely pale. Her blonde hair fell over her face, matted together by dried blood.

"Are we losing?" I asked, never looking away from the girl.

"Not yet, I have to bring more here so prepare yourself. I'll pull the silver out and then give them to you." The man said, preparing to leave the house. "Here's my bag, it's full of supplies." He sat an oversized brown bag on the floor next to me. He then pulled an apron over my head with many large deep pockets and began to fill them with supplies until they could hold no more.

He handed me a pack of gloves and I inhaled sharply, fear filling every inch of my body, "I've never actually worked as a nurse."

"You can do this, you have to do this we don't have a choice." With that he headed towards the door. Before he walked out, he stopped and looked back at me, "Use the wipes in your front pocket to wipe away any traces of the silver. You have to remove the silver or the skin will continue to burn. Also, make sure to use every bit of the Morphine in each injection, shifters need more than humans. Oh by the way, I'm Steve, the pack doctor." Then he was gone.
