I stood there as still as possible as I stared at three large wolves. One, the largest one, was all black and stood almost as tall as me, the one to it's right was a light brown and sat at my waist, and the last one was red and a little smaller than the second. All three were standing at full height, staring me down, all with neon green/yellow eyes.
I continued not to move and took shallow breaths so that my body stayed completely still. The only thing I had done after speaking was keeping my hands in front of me, it made me feel like I was somehow protecting myself.
Sweat coated my forehead and neck, and I could feel some slipping down my lower back. My heart was beating way faster than what was considered safe and I could hear it in my ears, in fact that's all I could hear. Right when I was about to lose my mind from our little stare down, they all relaxed their stance and sat down.
I couldn't stop my head from moving to the side in confusion. Why would they just sit down? Didn't wolves attack anything and everything?
I decided that I couldn't just stand there and wait for them to pounce on me, I had to at least try to get away. I had to know that I tried to save my own life. I changed my slow shallow breaths into deep lung filling breaths, preparing myself for what I was about to do. I began to tell myself that I could do it, I could run, and I would make it.
After repeating those words in my head three times, matching them with my breaths, I slowly spread my feet apart. All three wolves were still relaxed and watching my every move. I was praying for a sound, any sound that would capture their attention for just a moment so that I could haul butt out of there.
Within moments that sound came. Somewhere behind me and to my left, a twig snapped and all three eyes shifted off of me. I took that moment as a sign from above and turned around and pushed my body into a full on run. A run, that only lasted a few seconds. Shortly after I bolted, I ran face first into a rock hard wall of flesh and fell to the ground landing extremely hard on my butt.
My head made contact with the ground and bounced a little, sending waves of pain throughout my face while black splotches danced in my vision. My butt was on fire from taking the brunt of the impact and I could feel scrapes all over my arms as they began to burn and sting.
I lifted my head up and blinked my eyes rapidly to clear my vision. Once I was able to see my mouth fell open in complete aw and shock. There in front of me, completely naked in all his muscley glory, was Jackson.
I jumped up instantly and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him close to me. I knew right then I was safe, nothing could hurt me if he was around. "We have to get out of here there are wolves everywhere!" I whispered frantically.
"I know," he replied in a cool and calm tone. It wasn't the same voice that I was used to, it was deeper and darker.
I pulled my face out of his neck and looked at him. His face was calm, his lips held a half-smile on them, and his eyes were yellow.
Oh hell! I thought as I made a quick motion to twist myself out of his arms and run. He was too quick though and clamped his arms around my waist.
I flailed my limbs around, desperately trying to hurt him and break his hold so that I could run. He had the same eyes! I wasn't sure why or what that meant, but I knew it couldn't be good. The more I thrashed about, the tighter his arms became until it was almost impossible for me to breathe. I had no choice but to still myself in his grasp, or I was going to be a helper in my own demise.
"Are you done?" he asked quietly in my ear, releasing some of his grip slightly.
I let my head sag for a second, and then with all the force I had left in my body, I brought it back up hard into his face. I heard the unmistakable sound of bones breaking at the same time he let go of me completely. I didn't wait to see what damage I had done, I just ran.
