Someone cleared their throat. Both our heads whipped to the sound. My mother was beet red, my father was behind her with an apologetic face, while smirking. Brother was the one who had cleared his throat, while sister was looking at Dimitri like he was a mass murderer.

"Well you were right." He said behind me.

"I so told you so, on both counts." I knew I would be lost in the sea of him, and I knew if we took too long someone would come find us. The muscles in my back ached for... touch, a massage, him? I didn't know but it wasn't something I could stop. They could only see the tanged mess of his hair, and my wrinkled gown. Everyone had their eyes focused on the bruised bite mark I had left on his neck. His bright red side and my own bite were hidden from their searching eyes.

"Well that answers one question." Every one looked at dad, well not mom who was waiting for the right moment no doubt to begin her yelling. "She must be this man's mate. Fae are very skilled warriors," said warrior was creeping his hand down my skirt and rubbing my thigh, "Mates are like a married couple but more since for the Fae at least the bond can never be broken even after death."

Stop twitching! They will notice. Dimitri he was in my head how? Shhhh, it's okay. Just let me handle it. You too can do it once you learn. His hand groped my ass, he ran his long nails over the skin before sinking them slowly into my skin. When the pain got to much I slightly pressed my body closer to his to make his hand move. He smiled into my hair.

"That thing is fondling her!" Mother screeched. I just looked at her. Dimitri stopped moving, his chest rose and fell in allow uncaring bliss. It brushed my back every time. A scene from one of my very female books poped into my head. Latter I will do that to you. I would love to have you on me just as much as under.

"Dimitri please finish the back of my dress please, I would love to get to dinner. Plus you still need to put on a shirt. I kept my face neutral but I knew if this didn't stop soon my cheeks would flush purple. Mother was not my mom, I was a bastard from one of dads combines like brother. We were adopted in other words since it was believed for a long time that mother couldn't have children. I was a half breed and everyone knew it but I was still a lady. My razor back status was only more proof, along with my teeth. Every month mother had guards hold me down and yang my venomous fangs from the roof of my mouth, she would no doubt do it to every one of my teeth but I needed those to eat. Not to mention that no one wanted a toothless bride.

Danielle had never seen my back before, the scars or the sharp spines. Both were becoming visible. Mother glared at them, Father leaned his back on the doorframe, Elvin used a dagger to clean his fingernails, and Danielle stared at them with shook and horror.

Dimitri had changed into a black pair of leather pants with no sign of the growing bulge that had sat on my lower back. As he pulled on a shirt my eyes caught the scars on his arms and chest, how is it that I didn't notice them before. Though as soon as he stopped moving they seemed to disappear. Well that's odd. Though my fingers curled I forced my eyes to remain on his his. He was wearing a dark blue skirt, the sleeves went down past his hands but were open at the sides allowing his whole arm in view if he moved it out.

"Diana, would you do me the honor of letting me escort you to dinner this evening?" He flashed me a glean from those curved canines.

"It would be an honor to be seen with you, Dimitri." I placed my hand on his arm. Mother barely moved enough for us to get through, Father and Elvin, who had pulled Danielle away from the door, bowed as we went past. They followed behind us all the way to the dining room.

All the families of the new year familiar guard were here. The dragon guards all took turns saying hello to me personally. Dimitri made it very clear that Jade had chosen me and as such they were all shocked to say the least. Many of them clapped him on the back in congratulations. All them want us to tell them the second I got a familiar. One made a point to tell me that I would have more than one.

"He's a seer. They just know things," was Dimitri's answer when I asked him about it. Many of the people I grew up training with were dead, even more were being pushed in wagon like chairs. I was one of the last ones out and many laughed at me for standing when a vast majority of them knew I was in major pain. All of them placed bets on how long it would take me to heal, and as sad as I was to admit it, the pain was bad but if my body didn't start healing faster I may never run without a limp again.

My bottom jaw clamped down on my tongue sending stinging pain through my mouth. A burning hot brand shot in my mouth. So, many times I had to do this for broken bones and deep cuts, but this time I didn't let go as soon as it started to pump through my veins. Mother took my top fangs but my bottom ones were hidden beneath my tongue and were the only cure I knew of for the venom. For me however it seemed to severe two ways, an antidote and a healing bum. I needed to heal, keeping them embedded in my flesh would ensure that I healed as needed. Dimitri slowly guides us off to the side.

"I don't know what upset ye you will unlock your jaws. I can smell your blood, taste it on my tongue, and it needs to stop before I lose control."

I slide my top jaw up giving him a clear view of my tongue as I side it off my fangs and let him see how quickly the to puncture wounds closed before closing my mouth. "I have no desire to limp the rest of my life." He allowed his eyebrows to shot into his hairline and smirked.

"Now I know why you seem to heal so fast. There were whispers going around this room making bets on how quickly you would heal." I hit him in his chest. Well tried to, he caught it and laid a kiss on my knuckles. I rolled my eyes and walked away. He just followed.

Nick, first Sea Rider, was talking to us when howls echoed through the halls and into the dinning room. My head looked to the side as five wolf pups ran into the room. A silver one in front, black close at his heels, grey coming in third, brown was second to last, and a blonde rut bringing up the rear. People screeched and jumped out of their way. The front to tried and failed to put on the breaks as I stepped out of the way. The slid past yipping, the rut came to sit at my feet watching me, the brown one looked between the first two and the rut clearly torn between the three, and the grey one was looking over the two sprayed out onto the floor. Eventually they made their way back to the brown pup and then to the rut at my feet. They looked up at me with wagging tails.

Hello! I laughed at the little ones. I looked at the people around me who were holding their breathe.

"Sorry, everyone. These little guys are my familiars." This happens every year almost, at some point or another. I'm the third person to receive their familiar today. I look at Dimitri behind me, "Your friend was right."

"You will still be going to the academy, your my mate, all mates and bonds go there no matter what familiar they get." I pouted at him. The pups no doubt getting the blowback of my hidden rage attacked his feet. Their tiny claws ripped into his pants and their fangs left indented holes. A couple actually had little trials and spots of blood.

"Ouch! Quite damn it! Call them off!" Dimitri's shouting drew the eyes of others nearby. I was giggling. Then I was full out laughing trying to talk and failing. The pups stopped and ran around my feet yipping, their tiny fluffy tails wagging. "Next time you get angry just tell me, woman."

Did he just call me women! Oh. Hell. No. I turned on my heel. " You can sleep outside with Jade tonight!" I yelled over my shoulder. People made way as I stormed past. The wolves followed close at my heels and yipped at anyone who got to close. Dimitri tried to follow once, only for all five to attack him until he backed up. Dimitri was in the dog house.
