"What are we to discuss?" Erthanist inquires once we are all seated in the villa she and Glorfindel share. I look at Adar-nin, whose eyes are veiled. He inhales deeply and straightens.
"I have received several messages from the Woodland Realm. Orcs, Goblins and Spiders have had a resurgence of numbers. They are multiplying."
"It is nothing our warriors cannot handle." He holds up his hand.
"Before the Battle of the Five Armies, they would not have been as dangerous as they are now. We lost many soldiers and our own numbers may soon be inadequate." I stiffen and narrow my eyes are Adar. Erthanist ever so lightly places her hand on mine to calm me, though I sense her own disturbance. Glorfindel clears his throat.
"Evil continues to grow in the East. While it hasn't claimed Erebor and Dale or resurrected Angmar, there is certain destruction in the air. If the Woodland Realm should fall, the elves would be vulnerable."
"There are still the Galadhrim-"
"The Galadhrim are few, very few in number in contrast to the Greenwood Army."
"There is always hope. Why must we be so gloomy?" Erthanist says gently, staring into her father's eyes. The two are sharing a conversation neither myself or Adar can understand, just by locking eyes. Glorfindel clears his throat to speak once more.
"The point is, we must preserve the Greenwood just as much as Lothlorien and Imladris, and every other elvish home. We must not allow ourselves to be seduced." Erthanist silences.
"I have decided that in three days time, I will return with my warriors to Greenwood. In addition I plan to bring Legolas back home. Our people wish for their Prince's safe homecoming."
"I do not want to leave Imladris, Adar. Not yet." I entwine my fingers with Erthanist's, squeezing tightly.
"You have no say in this, Legolas. Our people require our guidance and you will eventually take my place as Elvenking. We have already been absent longer than we should have. Imladris has been wonderful, and has restored you to health. We need your spirit in Greenwood now."
"I will join you, then." Erthanist volunteers. Almost as soon as she does her father is on his feet.
"Nay, you will not!" He contradicts, shocking the rest of us.
"Then I shall stay here. I promised not to leave her." I proclaim.
"No. I will join you." Erthanist argues. Almost as if on cue, Lord Elrond enters.
"If I may propose a solution."
"Very well." We chorus. Elrond walks closer and places his hands on mine and Erthanist's shoulders.
"Allow Legolas to sojourn here until spring, then permit Erthanist to travel thither to Greenwood and reside a year there." Silence overcomes us. I find it perfectly suitable, and Erthanist does as well. We smile at each other then look at our fathers, who are each lost in thought.
"That would be agreeable." Adar finally speaks, sighing and massaging his temples. Glorfindel, who has resumed sitting, exhales.
"As long as Erthanist is unharmed and protected,.. I see this as a suitable compromise."
"It is decided then."
Thanks for reading! Any guesses as to why Glorfindel doesn't want Erthanist to go? Please comment and vote!
